Boot Looping.. Please help

the power supply was plugged into a surge protector and the motherboard says anti surge. do you think the hardware would just randomly stop working? its not like the house was struck by lightning either. and also damaged hardware wouldnt allow it to run great in safe mode right? its gotta be drivers no?

This does sound like a hardware issue, but there is also a chance this could be a virus. (I've diagnosed roughly 7 incidents of similar situations).

I would recommend booting into Safe Mode with Networking, and then update the malware protection that you have, and then run a scan. If you have the option, run a rootkit scan, as well. AVG Free does both of these really well. At work, AVG Free found malware that our corporate version could not find. It also has a rootkit scan that actually works!

I would suggest running a virus scan with the mentioned AVG Free before formatting the HDD. Although, there is a good chance this may be a hardware fault, it wouldn't hurt to eliminate another possibility.
 
if its a virus personally i just want to format and be done. if its hardware i dont know where to start. i ran maleware anti bytes and found something and removed it (while in safe mode) and it removed it, if im remembering right it wasnt something crazy something minor. but i by accident hit yes save a log file and it shot me into regular mode (not safe mode). and i sat their for about 5min then it shot straight to boot. EDIT: should i reformat or no? i cant decide.

Can you post the malwarebytes log for me please. Can you also install hijackthis and post its log for me?

Download the HijackThis installer from here.
Run the installer and choose Install, indicating that you accept the licence agreement. The installer will place a shortcut on your desktop and launch HijackThis.

Click Do a system scan and save a logfile

Most of what HijackThis lists will be harmless or even essential, don't fix anything yet.

When the hijackthis log appears in a notepad file, click on the edit menu, click select all, then click on the edit menu again and click on copy. Come back to your reply and right click on your mouse and click on paste.

Post the logfile that HijackThis produces along with the Malwarebytes Anti-Malware log
 
Try re-setting the CMOS/battery by taking the battery out of the motherboard and leaving it out for 5 mins this will reset your motherboard to all the default settings i can only think that the power out caused the motherboard to go haywire and possibly settings were changed in some way.
 
im so confused.. now i booted into regular mode and im running fine. the system restore aparently worked even though yesterday i loaded into a black screen. im starting to think your correct when you say a piece of hardware is going bad. when i run hijack this it isnt aloud in the drivers folder and also every time i run it its leaving the notepad it opens blank.. any suggestions?
I then tried to make a file that it told me wasnt their to place logs in and it told me "write access was denied to the location you specified try a different location please"

Right click on hijackthis and click on run as. If the run as option doesn't appear then press and hold the shift key whle right clicking on hijackthis to get the option to appear.

EDIT: i system restored so i dont have the log file for malware anti bytes. im going to run a scan with that now and then avast. oh i almost forgot. their was a file their (on my desktop) that was from after the system restore point (witch was a shady download i wasnt sure about but did it anyway, i think that was the problem). so me assuming it was a virus i threw it in the recycle bin and had ccleaner get rid of it. its been running strong for 4 hours now.

So played all last night fine and i booted up today played for about 2hrs and it randomly rebooted. then wouldnt even load into windows before rebooting again. so its definitely hardware at this point. i think im going to take out the battery on the motherboard and try that. then let you know how that goes. EDIT: running startup repair right now, after removing my motherboard battery EDIT: start up repair didnt find anything. loaded into windows fine. ill let you know how long it is before it reboots if it even does. EDIT: So i click on wow and the launcher appears. the second i click play poof. it freezes up and i hear the guy im in skype chop in and out a few times then that was it, it rebooted.

I'm thinking now that we know it's not a virus and it is indeed a hardware problem it is quite likely the power supply, hard drive or the motherboard. Hopefully it is just the power supply as it is an easy fix.
 
idk... honestly idk were to start. its gotta be the motherboard if anything or maybe the processor because the hard drive i ran a scan on with an iso, it came up clean. but the power supply wouldnt let me game for hours on end then just quit when i start to play wow. but it didnt quit just a minute ago.. could it be a world of warcraft file is corrupt?
 
Is there anyway you can get a different power supply to test to see if the one you have now is bad? Can you give us a list of your specs?

1. power supply
2. video card
3. cpu
4. memory
5. motherboard

Right now, I would have to guess either psu, video, memory or motherboard is bad. Sort of leaning toward power supply though.
 
I am have tne EXACT same problem in my dell...replaced gpu and hdd to no avail. I am thinking its either mobo or psu. Replaced mobo batery with no change as well.

But everytime I rewrite windows onto my hdd it starts for about an hour...can't figure it out! Def not a virus
 
Now my computer will magically boot into safe mode but is stuck in the boot loop for regular windows??

I can't stand this damn machine anymore

its def a hardware problem, and prob mobo, I think I will be giving up on this comp and selling some of its parts
 
now it magically works. its been 2 days since it randomly rebooted... itll probably happen and when it does this is where ill come. gl getting help sand.
