Budget Build

Budget Build NEED ADVICE

Hello,

My friend wants to play Call of Duty : Modern Warfare 2 when it comes out in November on the computer. He has a very tight budget but has a good case, a hard drive, an operating system (Windows XP 32 bit Home Edition), and we are planning on getting him a Rosewill RP550V2-S-SL 550W ATX12V v2.01 SLI Ready Power Supply.

He just needs a computer that will competently play Modern Warfare 2 on medium, maybe high settings. The budget is under three hundred dollars (shipping included) , the lower the better. I have tried numerous times to build something with quality parts (not necessarily expensive, but highly rated and decent performance i.e. the Intel e6300 processor) and can't quite get in the budget range. I ask the help of the gurus on this forum. (If it is in fact possible)

Also, I forgot to mention that fact that I know the specifications on the game are not out yet, but unless they really suprise me, the specs should not be much more demanding than Call of Duty 4. So really if it can play Modern Warfare 1 "very well" it should be able to play Modern Warfare 2 at least "well".

At least that is my expectation.

Thanks,

DO NOT GET THAT POWER SUPPLY Rosewill makes one of the worst quality power supplies around. $300 is a tight budget my build only cost $210 but thats not counting graphics, Hard drive, and CD/DVD drive. Also does he need monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard if so then a build with that budget is impossible.

Ahh thank you for the heads up on the power supply.

No, monitor, speakers, mouse, keyboard, all peripherals are already spoken for. I'm just trying to build a base computer, or tower.

I'm damn near positive and rosewill is an off brand PSU.

well here is one review i found on newegg of the on i have!

got this powering a overclocked brisbane 4000+ x2 to around a 5200+ x2 (thats 89 watts), soon to be a 7750 kuma, a 8800GS (overclocked pulling 129 watts), my 4830 will be here friday, 3 250 gig WD RE SATA HDD's in RAID0, 2 dvd burners (pulling 80 watts), 4 gigs wintec 800mhz ram (overclocked to 898 pulling 90 watts) 5 80mm fans, 2 120mm fans, 2 cathodes, an alpine cooler 64 pro...and it replaces a thermal**** tr2 430 errr i mean 350 watt power supply..i can tell a huge difference..load times are quicker, everything is running cooler, everything is Uber stable and i got plenty of room to grow on...plus the lights are great and go with all the blue in my pc..oh..and its cold as ice..ill post a hard copy of my rails in other thoughts
Cons: no cons here, this thing is HEAVY, so thats always a good thing, the wires are kinda odd, they have a yellowish gold stripe that throws off the colors in my pc, but then again, they got a different look to them and they glow under a uv, so i guess thats a nice touch by rosewill...which has the best customer service since newegg

Lets get back on topic guys. (Wow, authority feels good)

Do you think he should go for onboard graphics because of the tight budget?

Just an FYI:
1: Take Newegg reviews with a grain of salt
2: Off brand power supplies suck
3: Rosewill power supplies, even of the same model can be manufacturered by different companies, the only ones that are even semi-reliable are ones that are made by ATNG, but even then they are still pretty low quality.

my on board graphics could barely run Halo 1 on low settings and Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 would probably be worse
