I am somewhat new to computers, all i have done is replaced a power supply. I want to build a gaming computer but i dont know what's compatible with what and what is good so if anyone could post a build that i could use, i would be greatful :D im pretty sure i can build the computer with help from my nerd friends but i need to know what i should get in total from a good source. thanks, Christian

Few things:

1. What is your budget

2. What PSU did you get

3. What country are you in?

4. What Computer do you currently have?

Welcome to CF! First of all you need to figure out what your budget is. It is kinda hard for us members on here to help you with a build if we don't have the budget your willing to spend. I don't want to recommend something that is to far out of your price range, but since you want to build a gaming rig I would say around $1,000. I'm not much of a gamer so, I could be wrong on that est. anyway, I think the first thing you need to consider is what type of cpu you want to use AMD or Intel. AMD's tend to be cheaper. Quad cores are all the rage right now but can be a bit pricey. Then you need to find a motherboard that is compatible with the cpu you have chosen. Then find ram that is compatible with the motherboard you want. It's pretty straightforward really. I will let the gamers suggest parts for you since they tend to keep up with it better then me but i will give you a site you can take a look at

hope this helps!

my budget is $3,000 or lower
i got a ocz modxtremepro 500W
and im in the us
i currently have a crappy computer: emachines T5274
and i want an intel more

^ Decent, but he can do a lot better than that for the price. Also, that mobo won't fit in that case.

Here's my go at it. I had to add in another PSU...your 500W won't cut it for this beast. :D

No problem :)

I was on here for like 3 hours building that...nothing else to do, lol. Hoping for some input from someone on the Mobo though. That one looks like it has everything you'd need, but I don't know my X58 boards very well yet so I may have missed something.

Anything else you need on it? Remote control? Peripherals? Monitor?

yea what type of monitor keyboard and mouse should i get aswell? and would vandassen's mobo be compatable with the cpu u suggested? because his has like 3 pci and pci express things, idk what i need though

^ so do I, lol

You won't need 12 GB for games, get and SSD for boot drive and don't spend that much just for physX even if he has that money xD
Windows 7 OEM version
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116762

There's no reason for 12GB now, but given the budget, this computer needs to last a while...right?
Same reasoning for the PhysX card. It'll do that job for a long time.

SSD's aren't stable or cost-effective yet, and that boot drive is faster than half of them anyway. I see no point...?
edit: Here, number 30: http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/high_end_drives.html

And why get OEM? Dude's got enough for retail easily. The ability to swap motherboards is a good thing.

just because he has the money doesn't mean you have to like spend it all xD that 250gts i just don't see worth just for physX when he's able to have 2 5870s which will pwn any game with high FPS

Well the idea was to have it keep pwning games for several years. Many of the parts could even last past the first Mobo upgrade. That's why the graphics cards are all XFX- they have a lifetime warranty, rather than the standard 2-3 year one. Same reasoning for the 12GB and retail win7. Although, the 12GB of RAM could also be useful now if he wants to run any virtual machines. I'd do it just for kicks, lol.

Plus, there's the whole *hey guys check this out!" factor.. :D

it's sad how fast things upgrade :D next year we'll be like all over the GTX400s or the 6xxxx/7xxxx series and crap xD or new cpus that just completely own the i7s xD

It really is terrible, isn't it? I wish AMD would catch back up to Intel in the high-end stuff, because they tend to allow for a lot more backwards-compatibility...

That reminds me- have they released a date for Bulldozer yet?
