Building a Gaming Computer, Parts listed, need help/opinions/advice!!!

Hi all, this is my first time building a new computer from scratch and I was wondering if i could get some advice,opinions, or comments. I have a list of the parts that I am going to order, but I want to make sure that it's all compatible and okay.

Ok those are all the parts. I was wondering if everything is fine with this current setup? My biggest worry is that something is not compatible with something else (IE, somethings requiring more voltage than my power supply can output or something.. I dunno, I'm a newbie.)

My other question is, once I get everything put together, will I have to spend considerable amount of time configuring the BIOS? or will it be pretty much all set to go when it's set up? I'm not too familiar with doing anything in BIOS so i would have to get a friend to help me if I needed to tamper with it.. But basically after I put it together it's just installing the drivers and operating system right?

As for the operating system...
I have both XP professional and Vista Ultimate and I'm not sure which one to go with. I've heard that some applications will not work properly with Vista, so I'm kinda hesitant about it.


Basically I want to be able to run FPS games like vegas, supreme commander, starcraft II (when it comes out) and cs source. Thanks in advance!
 
Go with an AMD setup, i hate intel...and AMD is better :P

If you go with AMD get the 5600 for $10 more and if you plan on overclocking go with intel...a little more pricey though
 
I'm trying to keep my budget around 800-900 dollars.. the current setup is about 950 but that's as much as i'll stretch it. Price is pretty much why I chose AMD over intel..
 
Skim on the case a bit and the motherboard and go with C2D if it's the price that's killing you. The motherboard you have now has crossfire capability, but if $$ is scarce I don't think you will be using that capapbility anytime soon so no need for it, right?

As far as BIOS goes, you really shouldn't have to mess with them unless you plan on OCing? In which case, from what I've heard but please don't quote me on this, Intel is better at the moment.
 
Wait until July 22nd...you can get the e6600 for about the same price as the AMD. You could probably make some more money by then to get better stuff.

I've changed my parts list around, now it's quite different. Tell me what you guys think. I've added a monitor, keyboard, mouse, and speakers to get the entire desktop.

The total now is around 1200, a little high for what I hoped for, but for the entire desktop it's do-able. It would have been more ideal around 1000, but 1200 is the lowest I could get it.

I decided to go for the 8800 as many people have told me, I think it would last me longer and be better for me in the long run. And I switched over to the e6600 as well.

And for the question of using XP or Vista no one has answered yet. Should I just install XP pro first until I feel the need to upgrade to Vista? or should I just go ahead and install vista over XP? Are the problems with Vista and it not being able to run some applications true?

Dude people may argue with me but... If you stick with AMD and an AM2 mobo. you can get a phenom proc witch is supposed to knock the crap out of intel. And it prolly will. But at the moment yes intel is better!
 
Somebody suggested me the 7900GS or the X1900GT..


would those work for me? I know they are dx9 cards, will i have to upgrade to dx10 in the future? The only reason i would see the need upgrading would be to run vista.. and if that was the only reason, i'll just stick with XP

Do you have any proof than Phenom is going to knock the crap out of intel ?

You need to compare Phenom to Penryn, not Conroe.
Because Penryn will come out on Q4 2007 and it will compete with AMD Phenom.
