Building a Gaming Computer

ok, so i finally came to the conclusion that i need a new gaming PC. why? because i saw and played bioshock demo and the graphics sucked for me. they were choppy and it was lagging, even at a medium graphic setting. I don't just want to build this pc to play bioshock, but for my other needs, like multimedia, music, and stuff. And i also need this pc to last me a couple of more years. So, i went out on the internet, and searched up on tigerdirect.ca (yes, im in canada) for barebone kits. what i found sounded pretty good to me:

-Asus P5N-E SLI NVIDIA Socket 775 Barebone Kit
-Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 OEM
-1GB DDR2 PC4200
-ATX Mid-Tower Case
-600 Watt Power Supply
-$591.99 after rebate
-click here to see it on tigerdirect.ca

This is all the things included with the barebone kit. what i noticed is that it didn't have a video card. So i searched for a PCI Express video card and found this:

-XFX GeForce 7600 GT XXX Edition
-256MB GDDR3
-SLI Ready
-PCI Express
-Dual DVI / HDTV
-$142.99 after rebate
-click here to see it on tigerdirect.ca

from it's reviews and features i liked it. it has SLI, so i can alwasy go and buy the same one and setup an SLI, and even my mobo supports it.

So in all, with shipping and tax is: $953.38

So what i'm asking is,

how easily customizable is this hardware
and
is it a good deal, should i get it now? what suggestions do you have for a gamer who plays half-life2, bioshock, and other model and texture heavy games like that. i dont want it to lag.

again, i need something to last me a good 4-5 years. I don't wanna buy a whole new computer, i'd rather upgrade when new things come out.

thanks,
hadi mirza

I would recommend an extra gig of ram If you plan to play on really high settings. uhh I had the 7600gs and I really didnt think it was powerful enough, I suggest a 8800 series or at least a lower end DX10 card. p.s. If your going to using vista you really want 2gigs of ram. everything else looks ok, i'm not sure about the prices though because I dont live in canada, If that even makes a difference at all.*edit* well I just read the bottom of your post, It's a pretty current motherboard it supports a 1333 cpu, but unfortunatly the cpu that comes with the package is 1066, so really no gain there. that psu is a really cheap price, so i wouldnt count on it being too reliable, but i really dont know anything about that model so disregard that I guess.(i paid $160 for my 560w psu). but currently its very upgradable with the highest current and best technologies(except ddr3, but who cares). you will need 2 Gigs of ram and either the new ATI HD series or nvidia 8800 series for it to be considered great for gaming nowand anything like future proof, but no one can guess how long it'll be able to run the newest games, i'm afraid of when games that require more hardware than crysis come out. but its hard to say when that'll be. hope I helped.

ok, i actually would plan on getting an extra gig of ram later (like 2-3 months) but for the video card, how does this look:

it's weird though, how this DX10 card is only about $100 and the first vid card is like $150 (might just be my bad searching skills). But is that the only things i would need? because that stuff is easily upgradable in the future. how does the mobo, processor, and the power supply sound?

hey nmwords thanks a lot. I'm gonna wait maybe a couple of weeks before i make the final decision, but now that i know its upgradable with most things these days, it made a big difference. thanks a lot man.

hey no prob dude, and also do NOT buy that graphics card I couldn't recommend it for playing super mario bros 3. yeah it's dx10 capable but it has nothing under the hood compared to the 8800's or 2900's basically if you want to be on par for what your wanting out of your pc your gonna have to spend about 300 dollars, sorry lol.

the thing you don't realise about that barebones kit, is that you'll need to buy some sort of heatsink, as that processor is oem. if you would like someone to build something for you, what's your budget? I'll give you my opinion from there.

Truthfully, I've had an great experience with Pc Chips. I have an P25G, and his is an P29G... Mine is an great mobo and is pretty good at overclocking.

I'm pretty sure the mobo is decent enough if he doesnt plan on extremely hardcore gaming or overclock (too) much.
