Alrighty, I am looking to build a gaming/photoshopping/video editing machine. I plan on multi-booting Linux, XP and Vista (64 bit), though I may phase out XP eventually. I am looking to figure out part lists for ~$1500, and ~$2000 price ranges. What I would like to nail down is what each of those systems will be capable of in practical terms. No need to list mice, keyboards, or monitors, as I already have those components. However, if you have suggestions for some really nice ones for gaming, or know of really good deals (especially the monitor), feel free to list them, as I have a use for my old peripherals if I upgrade any of them. Regardless, do not include the those components in the price of the machine. Some other things of note:
Almost obviously, dual core is required.
No less than 2GB of fast ram. Preferably 3 or 4 considering the way in which Vista manages memory.
Water-cooling is something that I would -like- to do, and I think that when you start to go dual-core and overclock, water-cooling can be quite nice for performance and extending the life of the machine.
The option for SLI/Crossfire (If it fits the budget, include both cards, but even if it doesn’t, I would like the option).
Feel free to ignore the ~$1000 price range, it is the least likely range for me to be buying in. I guess I am just looking to see what I can build for those prices, and then I will look at what laptops for the same price can do, though, I am leaning towards the desktop. Anyway, I feel like I am forgetting a lot of information that I wanted to post, I will add things as I remember. Feel free to ask, and I appreciate the help.
Edit: I would like to build this machine mid march/early april.
