It actually has a paste preapplied not a pad, it will look like 3 silver bars on the bottom of the heatsink, the excess will get pressed out from under the heatsink when you attach it.it will have a Thermal pad on the heatsink,Then you just remove the cover off it.

I didn't think so, in fact I don't think any stock intel heatsink I've ever worked with had a cover, just the paste strips.I've built many C2D systems, and have never had a cover on the stock HSF.
I've built many C2D systems, and have never had a cover on the stock HSF. If you put on AS5, make sure that you thoroughly clean off all the old compound from both the CPU and HSF before applying it.
But that cover was painfully obvious right, it wasn't like a little clear plastic sticker over the bottom was it?
