as the title says, under 40 dollars. Also, make sure the main thing it cools down is the mainboard. thanks for your help

im not sure wat u mean by cpu, but i assume mobo is motherboard, so i have a matsonic 9087c. yeah i suck at these things.

unless, by cpu you mean processor and what not, and i have pentium4 2.99 ghz, which is basically 3 ghz i guess

450 PSU , ati radeon 9550

You have a Socket 478 Pentium 4 processor, referred to as the CPU or central processing unit. Why do you need a fan specifically cooling the mainboard? Have you noticed high temps on the mainboard but not the CPU? Usually the thing to overheat on a computer is the CPU, which needs a fair amount of cooling. Look for a case with good airflow and a couple fans already in it. Does this help?

ehhh not really -_- but, i only have 2 fans, and a program that shows you you CPU temp told me it was overheating, so I automatically thought, SO THATS WHATS CAUSING MY COMPUTERS RANDOMS RESTARTS! so i came here and asked for a fan, like one standing up. all it said was my mainboard was overheating, and it said find a way to cool it down. besides, a new case is WAY over my budget, unless i get money out of my bank. I don`t now how to transfer the parts from my old case to the new one either, and i dont know wether its too big or too small.

EDIT// I can post a pic of my comp right now if you want.

That's kind of a strange message. Does it tell you any temps? If not try running speedfan or motherboard monitor 5 (may not work with oem machines though)

From the pics it looks like you don't have a rear exhaust fan (though the pic might be zoomed in too much) which would probably help in cooling. You can search out case fans on Newegg.com or elsewhere - just look at the cfm (the flow rate) and, if you're concerned about noise, the db. Not sure what size fans your case will take; you'll have to measure or post more pics. Another option is to replace that stock heat sink with a better one - this would be the better option if you find that the case temperature is okay while the cpu.temperature is too high.

i was also thinking about replacing my heatsink, and also, im have trouble taking it off, because mone my my clips snapped, ill give you a better picture in this post. im not concerned about the noise, just concerned about how good it is. oh, and the program i was using said it was at 50degrees celsius, and it considers that too high for my mainboard, and i agree, that is pretty high. heres the link to the picture. i circled the broken part. also, to take the heatsink out, do you just pull it out? also, i have to go to a store, no credit card just yet, only debit =/ and i dont think my fan is fast enough anyhow, only 2.7k RPM, and yes, i dont have a rear fan. i only need 2. how many fans are you supposed to have?

If that's for the cpu then it's not all that bad, at least not dangerously so.

I hate Intel's heat sink retention system. I've busted a couple myself :P. Looking at the picture, your hsf is pretty dusty. You'll probably drop a few degrees just spraying it down with compressed air.

ALRIGHT guys, i got permission to take some money out, so im looking for a case in the 130 dolars and below range, please help me find one with good ventilation~

I'm goin with the Aspire X-cruise, I hear it's good vent, and teamed with the 7 dollar 120mm fan, it must have good ventilation, altogether its like 70 bucks.
