ok so now i know that the win 7 32 bit software will not recognize over 3GB of ram, how do i find out if my hp probook 6455b will run win 7 64bit so i can take advantage of the 8GB i have installed?

It should run it. Any computer built in the last 5 years runs 64-bit hardware.

ok thank you, I will give it a try

Unless you have 4+ gig of ram, there is no real advantage of 64 bit windows, I would recommend it if you had 8 gig of ram, but anything around 4 gigs, its a rather pointless. There is no performance improvement with 64 bit windows, just allows you to use more memory.

There's also some 64-bit only programs out there. And some of those programs run faster than their x86 counterparts, like Waterfox for example, a 64-bit version of Firefox.

Yes, your machine is x64 compatible.

I believe that your laptop only holds 4 gigs or ram, you can run 64bit, but you will not notice any difference, it just might run even slower..

As others have said, your machine is 64-bit capable. If you want a little utility that will check it for you, download Securable, from Gibson Research.

Or download PC Wizard from the my sig, install it and run it. Go to FILE, SAVE AS, click OK and save the text file. Copy its contents into this thread.

If you currently have 4GB RAM and you're wanting to go to 8GB and upgrade to 64bit, don't bother. Spend your money on an SSD and in the meantime use Readyboost.

Otherwise post specs ;)

Even with 4GB and 64bit its not likely to run slower, as on average a new install plus an effective RAM upgrade of around 512MB is useful on a laptop.

If you bods cared to read his other post networkcommand has already installed 8GB ram on his notebook which is running a 32 bit OS....

He now wants to get full use of it....

Lol, I didn't see that the first time I read it. He should definitely install 64-bit then.
