Cannot uninstall Norton. Please help!!

I bought a new Compaq laptop a couple of weeks ago, and it has preinstalled a 60 day free trial version of Norton Online Security. I didn't want the trial so I uninstalled it through control panel, and I uninstalled Symantec as well, which is associated with it. However, on Drive C, the program files are still on my computer, and I can't get the program off.

This is an issue because when I try to install a new online program, it detects that I still have other anti-virus software, and that I need to uninstall that before downloading the new one.

I cannot even get the program files off of my computer, even when I booted it in safe mode. It is very important that I get this off my computer, because I need to get a new virus protection.

Any suggestions or help will be greatly appreciated!! Thanks! :D

Norton is very well known antivirus but i don't think for it's good detecting, but probably for it's "amazing" uninstaller. I will just stick on the pc once installed and is pretty hard to remove. Probably the removal tool will do it.

I've been using Norton Internet Security for 6 years, upgraded to the 2008 version last year, and it's detection is one of the best. I tested it on many viruses, it detect the trojan.downloader that I've seen many times here, took care of it without me doing anything. It also detected the msn virus, but couldn't remove it so i did it myself. These are just two examples. The only downside of this A-V is that it is a ressource hog, and you've seen it, the uninstaller.
