fixing a computer for a freind. he left his computer on when he went to bed in the morning the screen was black.
I couldnt get it to load so I stuck in his XP disk and went with "repair" (winXP pro). when I put the disk in all goes swimmingly till the set up screen says "starting windows" (this is before I even get to the repair screen) and it just freezes.
so for kicks I swapped out the hard drives and set to reload a fresh XP and the same problem. I thru in a win98 disk on a wim and it loaded right up with no hiccups.
hiren boot cd tests show memory, motherboard, drives, etc are all good.
so my question is: why would it load win98 and not XP?
thanks
