cant install norton

im old and computarded. I have uninstalled mcafee using a download from mc.com, and would like to inst. norton, but theres an ere when I try. any help would be great thanx.
 
what is the error?
what does it say?

(and i wouldn't recomend norton... i would get Nod32, but that is just me)

That's hilarious new word.:P What's www.mc.com? I would use the uninstall feature through the "Add or Remove Programs" Tool in the Control Panel. Make sure you uninstall anything that says McAfee, since there may be other McAfee products installed also. And yes, Norton is a resource hog. Oink!
 
hmmm same i would not recommend norton, i use avgfree. it is light on mem usage, it is free, it works and i trust it with my new laptop
 
I used Norton for almost five years, but no more. I refuse to be held hostage by my system running like molasses (that's treacle to you in the UK) and insane annual renewal fees. I switched to avast! for free.
Jody, "old" is no barrier to learning, and it's just a number. Everyone had to start at this at one time. Relax. You're in good company.

i have no idea why you all have problems with norton. its not a resource hog. and my computer runs fast when i use it. you just have to have it set up right and it will run fine.
 
ok, I couldnt use the norton because it is xp and this is a lap i got of ebay with windows 2000. the o.s was wiped out because so many virus, so drivers are reinstalled, and it works well. However I have a brand new toshiba satellite which also has mcafee installed, and would like to get rid of it without wiping out my system. I used the mcafee uninstall on the first lap, but it would not uninstall all of it. was that avfast or avfree? one of you recomended. any other suggestions for anti virus? any other anti stuff I should have?
