Hi I've recently bought a new laptop its about a month old, and it has downloaded a windows update, security update for microsoft framework .net version 1.1 sp1. But whenever i say install, it says installation fail. What could be the problem? I'm running xp pro with sp2 installed?

Regards

I have autoupdates turned on, and it downloaded the update in question, but then tried to install it and it said installation failed. I think it may be a corrupt file..

yeah, and this corrupted file could come from a virus or a spyware.
try to install spyware, and ad-ware to remove all unwanted files (ex. viruses ...). then continue installing the update

try going into Add/Remove programs, find the .net framework, uninstall it, reboot, then do the download/install again. :)
