what's the difference between a celeron processor and pentium processor? i heard somethin that celeron's are no good, to go with a pentium. what is good or bad? or what would you guys go with?

The siggy says it all...Celly 4 lYfe! Yes, it's true that celerons do suck. Low cache size, etc...Get a pentium. You'll be much happier.

Just get a AMD heh, anyways compareing the Celeron and a Petuim definatly get a Petinuim. Celerons SUCK! I aldready switched back from my Celeron D 2.8Ghz CPU to a AMD duron 1200Mhz no one here really belives me when i say that so im not really sure why i am but its true.

How old are you?

Yo...

A Pentium is a better choice than the Celeron. However, Celerons can pull of quite a lot. If you are looking for a good budget oriented processor, choose a Celeron. If you are looking for performance, choose Pentium. It's not that hard after all.

JAN :D

Bingo, when comparing cpus or thinking about choosing a cpu this is the main question, you cant really compare celeron and pentiums as there completely different classes. You can talk about performance all you want but choose a budget and that will dictate your processor choices

i see. i mainly want it to play games. the comp i have is like...4 years old and getting slower, so my main focus on it is to play games at a fast rate instead of lag. world of warcraft is pretty bad on my comp heheh =X are AMD's good for games?

Celeron is pretty much last years pentium (P3), the pentium now has faster FSB, higher cache, much more that i cant list here. But if you want to play any games or do anything that requires alot of cpu usage, go with the pentium.

Why would it even matter our old I am? And it refering to my post i forgot to add to get a petuin and not a celeron, I was half joking about the AMD since it wasn;t his quesion, but then i went rambling on as usal and forgo about the petnuim part.

Celerons are good with enough RAM...

Nevertheless if you have the money

go buy a pentium...

That's the difference...

Celerons are good with enough RAM...
they are better with more ram, however i you would probably see a bigger performance increase by dropping back on the ram and using the saved cash to bump up to a p4.

Are you talking about dewktop or laptop? Celeron's are MUCH more affordable than Pentium M/4-M/4 in laptops. Also much more affordable than AMD rigs, even the XP 2000+ laptops run more than Celeron rigs that would give you more performance.

In laptop world...which would be better: Pentium M 1.4GHz or Celeron M 2.8GHz???

I can't tell the diff between all the Pentium processors they use in laptops, the Celerons are pretty competitive though if you get 2.0GHz+.
