'Cheap as chips' build

To thread starter, your still a kid after all~ building PC this days are very much easier rather than IDE days, tips: back from the old days we don't spend so much money for computer case, because if your really good you can pimp your crappy case into a cable management friendly case.

Jason/Spirit is a pro at building and computer stuff. :) He's done a lot with modern stuff.

well if he's that good then he don't need to consult in a forum.

Hes consulting just to get others "Opinions",spirit is very knowledgeable for his age...and has helped many members. ;)

So Symbol please don't comment unless you have something positive or the least bit helpful to what spirit is asking.

As for the build,Looks good Spirit,Only thing id change is the 6670..the 2gb version is only £5 more...should help out more if he want to try out other games such as BF3 etc,Should be playable on that system without issues.

Yeah I may still be a kid but I've built quite a few PCs now.

Thanks for the help everybody, I'll go for the stronger CPU + weaker GPU combination. :)

Ah thanks Nev for letting me know about the 2GB 6670 - I'll get that instead! Awesome! :D

Nice catch on the 2GB model. I wish I was able to help when it's in a different currency. :/

That's a pretty impressive build for 200.

Yeah it's not bad at all. OK, I'll tell him I have got something for him. It totals about £230 + £10-15 for the HDD and ODD but for less than £250 it's a good build I think.

Going for a Celeron, 4GB of RAM and a 7750 is cheaper but if the Pentium, 8GB of RAM and the 6670 will be better for him I'll persuade him to get that instead. Is it worthwhile getting 8GB of RAM for Minecraft?

Minecraft does use a hell of a lot of RAM, although 4GB might be enough. I think it's better to go for the 8GB my self. Especially if he is into huge structures and huge maps.

With that ps, case, and the 2gb 6670.
Overclockable x4 / dual graphics A10-5800K + GA-F2A55M + 8GB 1866 = £297.32 inc. A8-5600K is 20 less.
Thanks Benny. Very tempting indeed but I think close to £300 is probably pushing it a bit for him. I'll speak to him tomorrow and see if he can up his budget. If he can, that'll be great. :)

Hmm ok probably best to go for 8GB just to be on the safe side then.

I must have misunderstood.
You know how it is around here. If there's any money laying around, it'll get spent :)

I'm hopeful he'll up his budget. If he does, I'm going to probably get that 5800K. Are the graphics good enough to play Minecraft?

I havent used that cpu or played enough of the game to say. I did check out some info around the web and youtube and it looks like it plays Minecarft pretty well without dedicated graphics. Maybe thats an option.
Edit: Recording those videos takes some cpu power away from game.

Yeah it seems like a decent option. I'll look into it.

I'll tell him tomorrow I have a few different builds which will work nicely for him. We'll see what he says.

Thanks all! :good:

I play Minecraft pretty frequently on every platform it's available on. I think what would be best would be to beef up the processor a little, go for a decent dual core Intel or a triple core AMD, get around 6GB of 1600Mhz and up RAM, and just for convenience's sake, grab a OK Radeon GPU. There's no need for 8GB of RAM for Minecraft when it can be better spent towards the CPU. The only instance that much RAM could be more helpful would be if he's going to run a medium to large sized server, or multiple medium sized ones. The GPU isn't exactly a must considering the game operates on Java and mostly eats the CPU up anyway, but just to have one for all intents and purposes, would be nice. Personally, on that budget, I'd grab him a decent AMD triple core, 6GB of 1600Mhz RAM and a Radeon 6750 or something along those lines. That's just what I would build based on the needs and budget, but ultimately it's up to you and him. Hope I was of some help.

Cheers Origin! I'll see if I can get that stuff all on £250. Can't remember off the top of my head how much an AMD tri-core costs these days but I'll look. Thanks. :)

What site is that from Benny? Novatech?

I forgot to mention sometimes I can save money with Novatech if I speak to their salesperson.
