Cheap computer...

First of all, thanks for all the help you guys have given me in my previous threads, it's been great...

But me and my dad now have a new plan - I want to get an OKish computer, and then in a few months stick in an extra gig of RAM, and a X2 4200+ processor.

OK, that's it. Few questions, though...

1. It's all compatible, right?
2. Is that ABOSOLOUTELY everything? I mean, I could put it together, install the OS, and it would work, right? Absoloutely everything I need?
3. Finally, and most importantly, is the PSU that comes with the case capable of keeping the system running stable?

Nope. You can't have an ATI video card in an SLI system

No, that PSU is total junk. If you like that case, buy it, but get a separate PSU so that you can at least see the specs. 350W is very low, and it might run your current system, but never an X2

Thanks. I don't understand the difference, I'm a newbie to all these terms.. :D Could you suggest a graphics card for the same price that would be good?

Yeah, I was planning to buy an Antec Smartpower when I get my new processor...
What I meant was, would that 350W PSU run the system listed above?

Thing is,
you can go Nvida graphics and keep that mobo and change the graphics card
or
You can change the mobo and keep the ATI card

Do you have a preference on which you would prefer more?

Oh, I see...
My dad is going to be building this computer for me.
I have abosolutey NO preference - right now I'm running a 350mhz iMac. Great.
But nvidia I guess would be easier, so I keep the mobo..

Are you sure? I thought you could run one ati card in that.

Wouldn't it be easier just to change the graphics card?

Also, most importantly, would the crappy PSU that comes with the case run the system listed above? I'd get another one when I upgrade to dual core...

Well do you ever think you are going to want to run 2 graphics card in the machine, if not, then the MOBO and graphics card really isnt an issue.

Nah, I doubt it.
I don't really play FPS games.
Mainly strategy...
And besides, I can just upgrade if I really need it.

Ok, well, just another check, is everything now compatible? The system remains unchanged except for the nVidia graphics card. But seriously, does anyone know about the PSU, it's my biggest concern..
 
Well the PSU is crap, but it will still run the machine, just not as well as a more expensive one.

Ahhh..
That's a relief.
I'm REALLY tight, and I mean really tight for money now..
So in about 2 months, I think an Antec PSU and a X2 4200+ will make it a little better :D

I am not sure. Something tells me that you can't, so it would just be safer to go with an Nvidia card.

Ya bobo i just read it in maximum pc. You can run an ati card on a nvidia chipset but just not crossfire obviously.
 
i have the same mobo, and the ATI x700 pro.. run fine together, its just that ATI doesnt do SLI. so if you ever want a freakish about of video RAM, get 2 nvidia 1bg cards. run those SLI and u will be happy.

Depends on what you are doing. In many things it will be faster, in others, slower. in gaming, it will walk all over the Intel, but multitasking, the Intel will do better.
