Edit: Build Check Requested - Cheaper (than most) semi-gaming PC Build Help Required

Hey everyone, this is my first post here, as you may notice from the post count. Anyways, I'm in the market for a new PC.

Here's what I've got, mostly:

An old dell from 10 years ago in college, it's a PIII-866MHz, 768mb ram, and I think a 32 meg nVidea gfx card. Bottom line: It's Slow, really slow.

So I need a new one for some gaming / some graphics work (photoshop / CAD software), nothing too fancy, as I'll go into shock if i use a superPC.

I've been browsing around and reading the 101 sticky's and I'm still lost. Off of dell.com I can get what i want, seemingly, for $1200-1400, but I'm sure I can put a better one for less together.

Looking for around $1k, with everything. 19" monitor, 160gig HD is okay, 1 gig ram, and I was thinking dual core AMD, but no real reason why, other than keeping cost down. I won't be overclocking or modding, and boring cases are a-ok with me.

If you've got any ideas, zing em on in. I was checking out the $700 system in the computers 101 area, but I think that post was from february?

Thanks for any help,

SlowMo

*changes may apply*

So if you are interested, please reply:D

Nice day,

Nice

That system is very nice although here are a couple things I would change.

The speakers. Still Logitec but 5.1's for cheaper.

The motherboard. I have an ASUS P5B myself but it's the deluxe and I think the Gigabyte S3 would suit you better and has better reviews. It also benchmarked on par with my motherboard and a lot of other high end mobo's.

Ram. If you can afford it I would get 2GB at least. It will make the system seem faster and help with gaming and AutoCAD stuff. That's more of a $ call though. But with Vista coming out and you getting a free upgrade coupon I would def get 2gb as Vista is requiring more ram.

But you did really well for your first try. In fact what you've got will work those are just my suggestions. Good Job. :D

Thanks Grey410, it wasn't really my build, stole it from b3atofang3l with a few mods.

With your recommendations, the price only goes up about $100 (if that). Maybe I can dig up my current XP disk and save the $130 from that too.

Sweet

What is the price total without my recommandations and with it? Thanks. Trying to help another person save some money too. :D

First build was $1180.39
Your mods make it $1234.89
So $50 more for 5.1 speakers, a gig of RAM and the other Mobo, not bad.
