choosing cpu cooler

ive been looking at the traditional zalman cpu coolers with fan in the middle and ring of fins around it. i have two options:

1.
92mm fan with copper fins

2.
120mm fan with mostly aluminum fins

which is better?

I bought the CNPS 7000B a little too late for the old case when the cpu cooked there. With this build I have to agree on the CNPS 9500 for help on keeping the temps down. For a look at a lower cost and slightly smaller cooler Artic Cooling has the Freezer 64 Pro to consider. http://www.xoxide.com/arctic-cooling-freezer-64-pro.html

The one thing that will do far more for seeing lower temps overall however is not the make and model cpu cooler but the amount of air flow going through out the case itself. When first swapping boards in the old case the 939 here was seeing 46-48C idle despite the Zalman. That was higher then the cpu at the time which saw about 44C. Once the new case came along with a 140mm front instake and 120mm rear exhaust over the old case's two 80s rear and top plus two more 120s on the side cover the board dropped to 31C with the 3500+ since seeing 33C idle, 35-36 after gaming, and maxed out loads touching 40C while usually seeing 38C as the high. WMP 10 does that one!

Yep same with me - in old cramped case with no airflow (basiclly) CPU got to 56C under load.
New big case with 14 cm front 120mm back and 25cm side -dropped down to 46C under full load.
Try to have a good air flow inside the case

Most of the larger cpu coolers seen now have a copper base on those for better heat transfer. The thing I like about having the 92mm fan pointing across the board rather then simply away from it like the 7000B model is the cooling of both the video and sound cards by getting air moving around those. When first having the 9500 along running in the old case you know the story there where now it helps alng with the four large fans.
