Cold Cathode = Set your house on fire.

Well I was going to get a cold cathode or two for my case...until I was reading some reviews on them.

The product in question can be FOUND HERE.

Within the first day of having this CCFL in my computer, I started to smell what smelled like a burning electric motor. I thought it was coming from my monitor, and eventually it went away. This morning, the smell comes back, I look inside my case, and I see the CCFL shorting out, while the inverter was OFF! The insulation is completely burned through, and one of the wires is melted.

I know this is only a few reviews out of the hundreds, but either way it's just absolutely ridiculous, and I'm not taking that chance.

So I figured I would move on to some other similar product, by the same company. FIND IT HERE.

This product looked really cool, even nicer than the Cold Cathodes...oh but wait, I forgot, this also is [apparently] a fire hazard.

I noticed an odor of burnt wiring one day. Thought it was coming from my new power supply. I for some reason looked down at the blue controller and saw the outside case had a colored brown spot on it. I touched the case of the lightbar controller and the thing burnt my finger it was that hot. I opened the label that said dont cut or void warranty. Screw that. :). The circurlar converter coil inside was bad causing it generated enough heat to burn thru the main controller board and half way thru the outer case. Almost killed my new computer by burning. Almosted wasted $1000 dollors worth of hardware for coolness. Use LED's. Much safer!!!

I ordered 2, one was DOA, and the other one burned through its insulation inside of 5 muinites.

I can't even believe this stuff. I would usually just say "Oh well, probably a rare occasion that'll never happen to me" but after seeing that there's 4 reviews like this ...I'm not taking my chance.

So NOW I'll move on to LED Lights, which brings me to my question:

Should I buy a higher quality Cold Cathode....or just go with an LCD...like this.

Okay, I see where you're coming from, but seriously, what about all the other reviews about laptop batteries and cellphone batteries exploding? There's so much stuff that can happen that it's just irrational to go around and panic at a few negative reviews. I've had a few pairs of cathodes and run them 24/7 for 3 years straight and not had problems.

^ I would usually agree, but if my $1700 computer gets ruined because of something stupid like this, I would be so pissed off I wouldn't even know what to do with myself.

I may end up getting nothing, as my Antec 900's fans already have LEDs on the fans.

If your fans have leds you shouldnt need cathodes my computer lights up nice just from the fan leds.

Trust me, if it burnt down the house you would not being caring about the $1700 PC...

Yeah, I severely doubt that it will actually burn down a house...I mean, lets think of the worst case scenario:

It not only burns through some wires/smokes, but actually starts a fire...I still wouldn't be terribly worried because ...well, it's surrounded my 1mm thick steel. (I know 1mm isn't a lot, but I bet its enough to stop something like this).

Anyways, it still pisses me off that this company makes so much cheap crap.

Honestly, after looking at some of the reviews the majority of people say it's a great cathode for the money, and only a few select people actually had problems with it out of the hundreds of people who bought it.

i have my cathodes hooked up to one if th switches on my from panel. All you do is take the wires from the included switch and solder them onto the new one.
