Comp Turning Off

My computer keeps turning itself off and i thought it was due to overheating. So i went out and i bought a new processor fan and it is still turning itself off. I really have no clue what the problem is. Could it be a bad power supply??

Are you getting any error messages? Any blue screens?

It could be your ram or your video card or even your PSU. But it could even be your OS.

Is there any more information you can give us? Is it doing it while playing games or some other intensive operation? Or is it doing it when idling?

Help us help you!

well basically when i'm idling. it usually happens when i have 3 or more programs running. Also it happens when i leave my computer for an hour or so and come back than immediatly open a program it will just shut off.

I don't think it's your ram because the computer would just freeze or when booting it would just keep rebboting and rebboting and your graphics would make ur pc freeze or u would see lines on ur screen if it's not the psu once u get a new one then it's the motherboard

G'day, instead of starting a new thread i'd thought i'd just post this here

I am having the same problem my computer keeps freezing up, it doesn't exactly turn itself off cos it still makes the humming sound. however, the screen just goes blank and i have to reboot. I thought this was due to over heating but now i'm convinced it not cos i might have my computer turned off for an hour then start it up and after 10 mins it freezes.

1. There are a few things that u should know, i recently changed my monitor from CRT 17" to an LCD 16" one. i dunno if it means anything but that exact night when i changed my monitor over it started like freezing.

2. All of my parts are less than a year old except the PSU (2nd hand) and the old and new monitor.

3. I am usually playing a game (warcraft) when it happens.

4. When it happens, like the screen goes blank sometimes the music from itunes keeps going and sometimes it just starts skipping.

5. When i get angry and press lots of buttons after it happens it usually starts going beep, like a really long beeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeep.

Here's a list of my specs

Microsoft XP (i have all the updates etc)
AMD Athlon 64+ Duel Core 4600+
DDR2 2.00 GB ram
NVIDIA Geforce 7900 GS
Syncmaster 172N monitor
Asus m2v k8T900
A-open case ?? (model no: FSP300-60ATV)

I dont really know anything about computers but if have tried to list as much info as possible.

Did your monitor come with a Driver disk/CD? If not, did you visit the website to make sure you had the specific drivers, or go into XP's Device manager and make sure you had the best generic driver?

Do you know the history of the PSU? Did it come from a trusted source?

Do you have the correct drivers for this card? Is the card itself overheating?

how do i know if the card itself is overheating?

Just seems strange to me that i have never had a problem with anything on my computer before and as soon as i plug the monitor in, the screen goes blank after either 10 mins or up to 2 hours and i have to reboot

anyways,

i have downloaded the latest monitor patch and the latest driver for my grapics card and it is still doing it

any suggestions?

Download a temp monitoring software. I prefer SpeedFan, but there are others. You can see your temps after it's installed.

Did it ever do it with your old monitor? If not, then this new monitor could have a faulty cable, or the inverter might be on the fritz.
