Comparing AMD phenom II X6 to Intel

Its really got more to do with the cores clock for clock speed,(Pipelines mostly) not the cache. People forget AMD has twice the amount of L1 and L2 cache, one reason they dont need as much L3. So overall cache is not that different.

Intel just really played the same game that AMD did with the Athlon 64 vs. P4. Just turned it on them. It took Intel 6 years to make a come back 2000 to 2006 till the Core 2. Because they had a hold on market share and didn't care. And in this 4 year time span since the Core 2, AMD has done alot better job of it then Intel did with the P4. And with alot smaller budget. Intel is a vacuum cleaner and look at people like dirt. With Intel's budget, AMD should not even be able to stand in the same room and AMD can even beat them.

Now dont get me wrong. I'm not a AMD fanboy. Intel is just scum and AMD is the only other choice.

Well the problem is about 6 months ago the quad core deneb architecture was getting outclassed in every aspect by the I5 quads and I7's just destroyed them. So, since AMD can't release their bulldozer yet, for some reason, someone came up with the idea of squeezing 2 more deneb cores on the die. The problem is, it's still slow deneb architecture. While the extra cores help, it's still outclassed by the faster core speed of the Lynnfield and Bloomfield's.
What AMD should have done is added more L3 cache, it would have helped, but six 45nm cores on one die was probably hard enough to squeeze on.

The Amd x6 is better than the PhenomII x4's..... benches seem to show otherwise but that why you disable the Turbo core feature.... It might be two more Denebs put on the die but the memory controller has been revised.... and better stepping....

I agree with you Stranglehold, AMD's efforts are definitely better than intel's were in that era.
And the x6 isn't a bad cpu at all....but I've owned a 1055t, had it up to 4.2ghz on air and 4.5ghz on phase. I now would rather own an Intel I3 or dual core I5, because they simply seem snappier with the apps I use. I run my I5 655k at 4.6ghz, 1.36v.

Did you run the SSD with the 1055t.... how about the ram speed/timings with NB overclock....

What benches are you going to want to run... I get some gathered up as well....

Yes, I'll never go back to spinning drives :D. Ram would only go to 1600 cas 8 but that shouldn't make any difference really. NB I ran at 2800 IIRC.
I'm actually running 1680 cas 8 right now on the I5 655k, 4.5ghz (167x27) with 1.34v.

Uhh, whatever you want as long as it's a free download somewhere.

Thats true to a point. Both the Deneb and the Thuban are one offs of the X4 and X6 Opteron. The Opteron server wafers go through alot more tweaks/improvements then the desktop Phenom II wafers do. Alot more smaller ones that dont call for a new stepping.

The Thuban split at a later date, so more of the tweaks/improvements probably were implemented in them from the Opteron.

The only exception would be the Phenom II X4 970. Its still a C3, but from what I've heard it has some improvements from the Thuban that hasn't been included in the 955/965.

1090t's overclock significantly higher on average than 1055t's. But even clock for clock the I7's have advantage over AMD's hex cores for sure.
