Planning on building a new computer soon, I kind of threw this build together in a hurry and want to know what you guys think. Any compatibility issues? Recommendations on parts? One part I'm not sure on is the sound card. I'm just tried of being held back by it as my headphones are quite high end I wanted to go all out on the sound card.(Relative to what I'd usually spend on one) Any help would be appreciated. Any I'm big on keeping my computer as cool as possible, and recommendations on fans would be a big help. (120 mm fans). As well as a heatsink, is the one I chose reliable/effective? I would like a recommendation or your thoughts on it.

Thankyou again... I don't want to spend any more than around 1850 on this, so if you recommend I upgrade one part if it goes over 1850, maybe make a recommendation on another part that should/can be downgraded. Eg: "upgrade graphics card to [?] and downgrade your cpu to [?]. Something along those lines."

EDIT: Changed the PSU, RAM, harddrive, and deleted soundcard, option of heatsink also eliminated. Case has also been changed. I just switched out the i7 2600k sandy bridge for a i5 2500k sandy bridge as the price difference is over 100 dollars and the change in performance isn't drastic. I'm now trying to cut back on price a little due to certain issues that recently came up. I also switched out the ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME with a much cheaper and still very good ASUS P8P67 Pro. It also took around $150 additional dollars off the cost.
Rough price also changed

I'll be using it for a wide variety of things from photo/video editing/animation, gaming, a small amount of 3D rendering as well as general email, word processing etc etc.

that hdd will be slow, better to get 2 caviar blue 1tb's with a 6gb/s connector and stick in raid, will be wayyyyyyyyyyyyyy........ faster than that, like he said, you'd do better with 1600mhz and g.skill has 8gb's of dual channel 1600mhz ripjaw x's and non-x's for 65, good deal, and more reliable than those and come with a heatsink too and i think lower lat., 2500k is almost exactly as fast, gains are minimal and only dif is hyper threading, and unless overclocking then a aftermarket cooler is unnecessary, and that one probably won't help you much anyways.
 
Is it possible to make it so windows boots off only the ssd resulting in as you said faster boot/shutdown times? But of course also having 2 tb storage? Know what I mean? I don't know much at all about ssd's...

Yes, his post was spam and I deleted it. Yeah, that basically what the ssd is for. I only have windows 7 and will only have a few highly used programs install on that while the balance is installed on a standard sata hdd drive.

Also just noticed the motherboard is an extended ATX, you will need to either pick a different motherboard or pick a different case as the extended atx won't fit a mid tower case, which yours is. Here is a list of extended atx cases at newegg

Ah, ok thankyou.

So generally, how would I go about installing the OS on a certain drive? My last computer was pre-built. Sad I know, and don't remember whether you can choose what drive to install the OS on. Is there anything I need to do besides simply choosing the drive in the Os installation process?
 
I edited my prior post so please take a look at it, you will have to change either your case or motherboard due to incompatibility.

You boot to the windows install cd and it will allow you to choose which drive to install windows to. If you only attach the ssd drive and then install windows then its easy to pick out what drive to install to. After install, you can add your storage drives back to the system. When you go to build it just come back here if you have any questions. We also have a guide on how to setup and manage an SSD drive to get the most out of it.

The Black HHDs are very fast and reliable. I would go with that. And since he's doing photo/video editing and 3D rendering, the 2600k will benefit him.
 
Ok, chose a "IN WIN Dragon Rider Black 1.0 - 0.8mm SECC Steel ATX Full Tower Computer Case". It has quite a few built in fans and is a decent price, what is your opinion on it? Also, I may not be building this for another 2-4 months due to money issues. Though for the next week or so, I'll start ordering a couple parts as well as updating this thread. Any other suggestions? Also, like I said I'm a very big fan of keeping my computer extremely cool. Can anyone recommend any fans?(120 mm)

I'm settling on 1 "Western Digital Caviar Black WD1002FAEX 1TB 7200 RPM 64MB Cache SATA 6.0Gb/s 3.5" Internal Hard Drive -Bare Drive" (Link in original post). And use an old 500 gb harddrive and put it in an enclosure for additional storage. Any other suggestions on parts?

Yep. Get a Samsung F3 1TB instead. Best hard drive I've ever used (aside from SSD's)

Oh and get the EVGA GTX 570 HD 2560MB - more vram is good for intensive games or if you like maxing out the AA. It's $399.99 on newegg. But probably worth it. I intend to buy one through PriceUSA (since I can't find the 2.5gb card anywhere in australia... It will cost me $450 but I want one that bad :D)
 
Thanks for the suggestion. I would buy one but the only thing is the gaming that I do, I do often buy not necessarily intensive. Thank you for the suggestion though. With regards to your HDD recommendation, wouldn't a 6 gb/s be better? And also, I think the mobo I chose was a little overkill (Just watched a review and just had so many features crammed into it). Can you recommend a solid full size atx motherboard?

Also look at the original post for all links/names of the parts I mentioned above.

Are all the parts still compatible? Also, any more changes to save a little more money? I think I can get a worse but still middle-high end graphics card for $180-220 but im not too sure. Give me your guys's thoughts on the matter.
