Should I Reinstall the OS?

This is most likely not a virus but a wrong setting in the registry for start up programs. Sort of like the "my documents" folder appearing at startup. Its just a matter of looking at the entries in Msconfig on the startup tab to determine what entry needs to be fixed, which usually just requires added quotation marks.

I made an image of the computer at the current state (so if its not the problem i could go back and get my old data) then did a fresh install of the OS and it is still crashing

well i doubt a fresh restart of the OS would leave a problem in the registry.....


I took out my 250GB to see if it works without it, the drive could have a problem that the disk diag missed.

could it be a compatibility issue with the hard drive?
 
Have you ruled out PSU? if so how old is the machine? otherwise it could be the motherboard this is an intriguing one.
 
Definately a hardware issue. And without replacing part by part, would be no telling which one could be bad.
 
Its about 6 years old

i would not know how to check the PSU but it keeps feeding power to everything and its not an mediate crash.... it crashes like if you were to take a screenshot

cant move the mouse cant type but the image stays the same

i am expecting a phone call for a new graphics card to tell if its that, i would check using integrated graphics but the mobo dosnt have 1 :(

i have been running it for a wile now for now its only crashing when i try to install Allods (an MMO) but for browsing the internet and talking on the forums it works fine..... could it be a problem with the mobo sending and receiving information from the HD?

If you just did a fresh install of windows then it can't be windows related unless you have a corrupt driver. You might just have to borrow different hardware until it works. Diagnosing what could be bad is hard at times.

Double-check the CPU heatsink and heat transfer compound. Sounds to me like it's fallen off or loose and the processor is overheating. The 10-20 minutes is a good clue here.... the more load on the CPU, the hotter the CPU gets, the faster it crashes.
 
well now i have figured out the problem(i think) i pulled out the HD with the OS on it and put in an old one i had with W7RC then i changed the BIOS date back a year so that the computer would think it is 2009 and not crash(so far its working) now i have my old computer back(yay) and a good working computer

thank you for all of your help in the matter
