Hi,

My computer is old (5 years) and in need of replacing

Current Specs:

Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.4 GHz
512 RAM
NVIDIA GeForce6600
40GB hard drive

Probably could add more in there but don’t know were to find the information from as I did not buy the computer or set it up.

In terms of budget I am pretty flexible however I do not want to spend for the sake of spending as my gaming is very limited to mouse only games with a bit of keyboards thrown in (see below).

What I need is a reliable computer for gaming (Football Manager series, Civilization series, Command & Conquer Series, Broken Sword Series, Warcraft Series (Not World of Warcraft though) and old schools games such as Doom, Theme Hospital, early C&C, early Warcraft etc.

I will be starting course work in the near future but I have already got Microsoft Office 2007 for that. Should I stay with XP Home Edition version 2002 or go to Vista?

I also have a requirement that I have over 20GB of music (and expanding) to put onto the new PC and would like the PC to double up as a decent sounding CD player if possible.

I would also like a new monitor as the big box is on its last legs.

I feel I will have to buy a PC rather build as I only have use of one hand.

Any suggestions welcome.

you'll probably want to stick with xp for c&c, i tried playing red alert two and it simply wont play, but red alert all the colors are messed up

www.misco.co.uk... look up:

E8400
P35-DS3L
DDR2-800 CL4 2x 1GB Dual Channel Kit
Seagate Barracuda 320GB
8800GTS G92
Antec 900
OCZ GameXStrea 700W
SATA DVD Burner

Should be a helluva gaming rig.

Yes, but it's much easier than you think. Notice my age. Exactly 2 years ago I built one also, and it's right by my side. Perfectly working.

no i'm disabled and have limited use of one hand so if it anything tricky rather than pressing against somethng to hold it in place then i can't do it.

yes im sure you could build it with one hand, you might need help moving the case around though or something :)

you probably could, but u would definetly need some assistance. its better to just buy one. And it'll be a bitch if u plug everything in adn u forgot something!

To be honest the last thing i want to do is buy all the parts get instruction and then go BUGGER i can't do it.

Do the likes of comet / PC World etc do good deals on Pc's

If you can't build it yourself, just pay some extra to buy one.

Is your old PC a branded one? e.g. HP/ dell/ Acer, etc. It is because I don't know if you could reuse your old OS or not.
If not just go for Vista Preinum 64bit/ XP

Edit:
1. PC from comet/PCworld are not suit for gaming.
2. For the links from overclockers, I would get 8800GT although 8800GTS is a better graphic card.
3. Q6600 with 9600GT may be better than E8400 with 8800GT, not sure.

It has CC2000 on it what ever that is; I don’t mind upgrading the OS, what’s the difference between vista basic, premium & ultimate? The third link in overclockers looks good but I don’t know what I’m looking at all I see are fancy buzz words.
