comuter building

hello, i am new to dis forum and computer stuff. i dont know anything about computers besides good RAM= fast computer. my goal in life is to build my own computer. i have couple questions before i get started:

Should i build one? would it be a waste of time and money?
how much money should i put into to build a good computer?
how long does it take to build one?
Is it hard?
how should i prepare for it?

plz be gentle with me...:)

it is a very good choice of yours to build your own pc
But:
You have to learn more than the basics to build it. I don't say it is difficult but you have to stay in details.
how much money you are going to spend depends to what exaclty you want. What are you gping to use your pc for. And sometimes you don't need to spend a lot to make your job done
The time depends to the money.

I suggest you to take some good books (as said above) and try to learn from them before trying to build your pc. Another good way is via asking others. With experience on it. Joining this forum is your first step :)

Your gonna buy a socket 754 motherboard that doesnt support DDR2 memory, thats why get DDR memory. Check the motherboard specifications to see what type of memory it uses but most likely it'll be DDR400 (PC3200)

come again? ???????? lol. wut do u mean by dat?
i tihnk i should get to know a little more before i actually start.

Yeah you probably want to read up a little more before building.. Static electricity can kill your components and thus you need to buy a band that grounds you so you do not emit a shock to a component...

DDR= Double Data Rate, and Different Socket types are basically different sizes by pins in the CPU to fit onto the mother board.. If you get the wrong sized ones to try to go together, it simply will not fit...

Before you start building try to learn about your pc and its specs and other things and if their sata or ata or ide or if they fit your mobo just all these things before you jump in.
