I have the following situation. In the basement is a wireless router with internet access. On the second floor are a bunch of computers, which do not have wireless cards. Running cable between the two floors is impossible. The wireless router in the basement is a WRT54GX2 with SRX 200.
What I want, then, is to have a second wireless router on the second floor. It would connect, wirelessly, to the basement wireless router. The computers on the second floor would then be connected by cables to the second floor wireless router, which is receiving internet access from its connection to the wireless router in the basement. Thus, the computers on the second floor would have internet access.
I do not want to have to put wireless cards/dongles in every single computer. I want a wireless router in the basement, a wireless router on the second floor, with both providing internet access to the PCs attached to them by cables. Only the basement is connected by wire to the internet; the router on the second floor would have to connect to the basement one wirelessly, and be able to share its connection with those on the second floor, which would be connected by cables.
Can this be done? So far I've got conflicting information: it's impossible; it's easy; it depends on the models; I need a bridge not a router; I need to use 3rd party firmware; etc.
I just want a plain, simple, straightforward answer. Can this be done, and what do I need to do it?
Thanks.
