We're getting excitied about Conroe, not AM2 :P
hehe
but the original poll put forward the proposition that AM2 will be something new, as does another thread in this post, and many many threads in this section.

And no the conroe/memron/woodcrest are not quad core

perfectly happy now, yes,, have you seen the benches done with an OC'ed FX60, the conroe wooped it by around 50% on ALL tests. At last somethign for the intel fans to be happy about, go INTEL.

go ahead, take a look, http://www.hardwarezone.com/articles/view.php?cid=2&id=1845, this is also the stabndard version of the conroe core, NOT the EE edition that will be released, so long AMD, lets see a REAL competition between this and AM2..... let the battle commence...!!!!

....so an intel fanboy huh? not many of those :P
i prefer whatevers better for the price and performance that im looking for... which looks like it might be conroe quite soon. :)

I was thinking about building a new computer with an X2 CPU but now that I've heard about this I'll wait a little longer.

OMG! INTEL better than AMD? NOO!!11 You must not buy this! AMD forever! Intel must die!!!!1111111oneoneeleven

Hahaha....just kidding! I don't really care. I think that its awesome that Intel is finally coming back on track from the massacre that AMD processors left them bleeding in before. Although, I do have a very funny hunch that AMD is hiding something up their sleeve and may release something better shortly after the release of the Conroe.

Currently nVidia and AMD are in the lead, however with ATI and Intel's new products, i bet they will become the leaders.

ATI just released their new product, did they not? And Intel looks to have the lead atm, but I don't think AMD will let them take it for very long, just like nVidia stuck back on ATI.

i think the 7900 is meant to compete with the x1900, but i may be wrong. In either case, ati's next card will beat the 7900. And then nvidia will win... it's an ongoing battle.

Intel may even surpass AMD

You youngin's don't remember when Intel ruled the world. Intel has always been in the lead its just AMD made some good processors when Intel was in a slump. I myself round about with the processors that the companies make. I.E. Price \ performace ratio.

lol, im not a fanboy as suc, perhaps just a "fan" of intel, never the less my next build WAS going to be AM2, but now its almost definately going to be conroe. Its oso damn good, lol.

See, this is why intel sat quiet when AMD pres released their new sockets and chips. they didnt say anything cos they knew they were in development of something massive, its on 65nm aswell, thats bloody tiny.

Keep in mind AMD will probably come out with a new core design soon after the AM2 launch to compete with conroe. As far as I can tell AM2 will only be a memory controller update so there isn't going to be any performance gain (AMD performs as it does because of low latencies, DDR2 wont help them). I'll upgrade my current P4 system to a conroe but that's because AMD isn't giving me any reason to change by adding DDR2.

I'll be switching to Conroe if it still holds up against AMD :P. Can't keep up with all this new hardware and competition!

Hmm...sceptical

Guys I would question the results actually. It is quite too early to be talking about Conroe with relation to AM2. I am quite sure that the new AMD processor line launched for the AM2 socket will be a good competitor. In order for me to go for a Conroe, I would have to see much more in-depth testing at practical resolutions and so on. I am not discrediting Intel, I am just cautious about calling it the next best thing. The term best is relative ... I say wait, see and don't jump to hasty conclusions.

other than the ddr2 (with possible ddr3 a stone throw away http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=30252), and the move to scaling up the number of cores, i dont really see much in the AMD road map in the way of new architecture. And to be honest they normally dont keep these thing quiet, if anything quite the opposite, the more noise the better. So when people say, i bet XXX have something up there sleeve, well it may seem that way if your not in the information curve, but in reality the market will have heard about it long ago ;)

yes, i agree. definitely wait because its hard to forecast that far ahead when it comes to processors...

i sure hope so cuz conroe seems to rule right about now... if they don't they're in some might big trouble with the gaming market which they've seemed to rule for quite a bit of time now :)
i'd like to know the specs on the machines they (conroe/[email protected]) were tested with!

It's very nice that it's Socket 775, I think that will be a huge plus for current Intel users with that socket. This means they dont need a new mobo, just pop in the new CPU and your good to go. With AM2 on the other hand, you need a new mobo.

Not really, your mobo manufactrer has to release a BIOS flash first. Only compatible with the 975 Chipset, but i think there will be a BIOS flash for nForce 4 boards.

Im am defo getting this, as soon as its out.

you mean you HOPE there will be a flash for nf4 boards.... lol, nah im sure there will be, it would be dumb for major mobo manufactures to miss out on such a major chage.

got a surplus of cash lying about then helmie....?? i certainly dont, again it will be a case of the older LGA775 models being pushed down in price. This might not happen this time cos its said that they will discontoinue all models under the Pentium 4 920 model. Hopefully that one will become cheap.... I'll need a new board aswell.
