corsair vs crucial

Is there really any difference between computer memory companies such as, for instance, Corsair and Crucial, to name a couple, one at the top, one at the bottom? Customer service is it? Is there really any difference in their memory?
 
Nope. They're basically all the same. It's all personal preference. Some companies just have better reputations, better warranties, prices, etc.
 
If I had to choose I would go with Corsair. I had to rma a set of sticks a while back and it was a pleasant experience. No issues what so ever.
 
Used both Crucial and Corsair memory, not had a problem with either. Get whichever is cheaper.

That is bull right there. Each memory module has 2 components that differentiates it, the IC module, and the RAM board build (similar to a motherboard, but for RAM instead). Not all ICs are the same, and they will not perform the same ever. They determine the clockrate and the timings that are possible on said module at a given voltage.

Just to be said, micron, Eplida, and Samsung are some of the better ICs and they are commonly found in Kingstoon, Patriot, G.Skill, Geil, Samsung, and Corsair modules.

But in the end what it comes down to is RAM is RAM is RAM. It's not like Laptop manufacturers where HP is crap and everything else is better than HP.

I havent bought anything other then GSkill in a few years. Second choice would be Corsair or Kingston.

I hate Kingston myself. I bought their 1600MHz version, automatically it was set to 1333MHz because t seems that his default voltage for 1600MHz is 1.6v -.-
Now running gskill and Kingston together and need to set the voltage to 1.585v to be able to run 1600mhz...

From what I believe, G.skill does make very good RAM.

I want you to sit down behind two computers, with identical specs apart from the memory. The RAM is specced the same, but from different manufacturers, and I would love for you to tell me which is which and that one is faster than the other.

I will save you the hassle - you can't tell. RAM is RAM is RAM. Unless you are benching and get a raging semi over a few numbers on the screen, Corsair is as good as Mushkin is as good as Patriot is as good as Avexir, is as good as G.Skill, they are all the same. The only time one wins over another is with price or with support, and even with the latter they are all pretty much on par.

NO NO NO. What you are saying is not true. It is no better than saying here is 2 7970s, which one is which? And only looking at the screen to tell. Or handing someone 2 computers one with a Biostar Motherboard and one with a UP7 both at stock CPU speeds with 1 say GT640, and asking them to tell what is better. RAM is RAM is a statement from someone that does not understand RAM at all.

I once worked on a desktop with a corsair stick that did that, dominator or vengeance or something, so I don't think its just kingston.

Yes Yes Yes. What they are saying is true. Other then reliability/warranty or customer service. Doesnt matter if you run Adata/Kingston/PNY or even Team. You will never notice a difference if they are the same speed and timing. Even in benchmarking there will be only a slight hair difference. Now overclocking is different, but nobody is talking about that.

There is a difference between the components you listed and memory though.

Whilst a 7970 will perform the same as another 7970, the support, cooling and build quality will differ.

With the motherboard the same is true.

With memory though, build quality is pretty much all the same, support is all lifetime warranty and just about all manufacturers will straight replace, often without even needing proof of purchase, unless you are overclocking, which itself will yield little real world gain, the heatspreaders, whether with or without, will make no difference.

Regardless of how you dress it up, RAM is RAM is RAM, and you can make yourself sound as pretentious as you like, it will still be the same

Comes down to choice. Ram is ram, i like crucial, even if i am spending more on it at times, the reliability is good and the customer service is also good...plus they don't use crazy super tall heat spreaders the gamers seem to go gaga over...
 
A team elite and dominator or g2 or whatever is the same if the frequency and timings are the same. If you intend to overclock then of course the more expensive stuff makes a difference. But since you aren't RAM limited anymore, overclocking your ram is a bit pointless.

Your video card is point man on minimum frame rates.

I suggest you check the warranties again ;). The list of memory manufacturers not offering lifetime warranty is shorter than those that are, because of the confidence the manufacturers have in the build quality, because it is all equal.

That warranty too, i guess you have never had to claim on it as your description is also completely false. The longest i have ever had to wait for a like for like replacement is 3 weeks, from the memory getting posted to the brand new lot arriving at my door, and that is for it to leave the country and come back.

You keep your marketed-as-high-quality memory, i will keep my equal quality memory... Corsair, G.Skill, Samsung, Mushkin, it is all still going strong.

Oh and your higher memory performance = higher fps in games with equal specs is also false, unless you have very little or very, very slow memory, it will make no difference as the CPU or GPU will be the bottleneck. Going from 1333 to 1600MHz, same timings, 0 fps difference in any game
 
Well...its not 0 fps difference, but its like 2-3 FPS. But yea, very negligible increases in performance due to increased memory speed...id stick with supported speeds of the memory controller with tighter timings... high speed ram is snakeoil...offers diminishing returns for how much you spend.
