Could I have some help with a new rig?

Hey guys - haven't been on here in a while - hope you're all doing ok! :)

Anyway, I'm building a new setup, and I've got a budget of around £500. Seeming as I haven't been on 'the scene' for a while, and I'm not up to date with all the latest and greatest, I thought I'd come here and ask you guys for some help.

This is what I've come up with so far:

Total = £480.

I want it to handle the latest games with ease - and it needs to have good overclocking potential (not sure if that motherboard is the best one for the job).

If any of you guys could spare some time to make some suggestions/improvements then it would be much appreciated.

Cheers,
- Tim.

P.s. No need for RAM or a case as we already have that. ;)

looks good, how much more is the zalman 9700?

£7. But I just chose the 9500 as that is the one I have and it performs very well (plus, I'm not sure about size restrictions with the case as I wasn't the one who bought it).

Do you think the 9700 would be worth the extra money? I guess the CPU runs hotter than my C2D, so a bigger/better one would be needed for cooling it...

what about the arctic freezer 7 pro?
and from what i hear is that the mobo is great at oc'ing

I don't know much about the Arctic Freezer 7 Pro to be honest. I'm not too bothered as long as I get a decent heatsink for the CPU that handle it being taken from 2.4 => ~ 3GHz. I'll look into how well the AF7 Pro does vs the Zalman 9500 / 9700 CNPS...

Looks great! Nice build.

I'm hoping it will be! :)

Hey Tim!

Take a look at the Tuniq Tower ;)

Hey - thanks! I've looked into the TT vs the 9700, and they are both pretty much equal, with the TT coming out on top by a little. However, it is a HUGE heatsink, and I'm a little worried that it's not going to fit. I guess I'll have to take a look at the case it's going in and figure it out from there...

Yeah - I was planning on scouting different sites for cheaper prices once I knew exactly what I wanted, but it seems that no one has any improvements to make on the list apart from the heatsink! ^^

Because I'm greet I'd go for the Seagate 7200.11 500GB instead of the Samsung. What are you doing with your DS3 when you build this new one?

You'd probably don't need 650W PSU, but OcUK have that item on sale, so that's fine.

Yeah, I'd recommend that drive too. I have one and it's super fast!

Also, Why don't you keep your current board, they support 1333FSB and Quad Cores?

Ebuyer.com FTW :P

Cheers - I'll have a look into that drive.

And I'm making a completely new system to run alongside my current one, so using my DS3 is not an option. :)

Ah Ok, Cool.

What about one of the newer 45n Quad Cores, Are they any cheaper, or are they a little more? If they weren't that much more, I'd say go for it, they'll run cooler and probably OC a little higher.

Also, Good choice on the GTS. It'll OC like mad! :P

Well, OC'ing the graphics card is not a top priority, but I guess that's good should I ever want to. Also - the limit is £500, so I'm not sure I'd be able to go for a 45nm Quad.

Are you in hurry to get the new PC?
I've heard the new intel P43 chipset will out soon...

Hmm, but they'll cost an arm and a leg to buy one unless I wait another couple of months after their release. Unless you mean it'll drive the prices of other motherboards down..?

Not sure the exact price. On April, heard it will be release with P45 at the end of May. But two weeks ago, seen it at somewhere saying June. Whether you want to wait is entirely up to you.
