Cpu getting hot :(

Hi guys,

Is it normal for the comp to become unstable when its getting too hot?
Could it damage anything?

Because i got home and my mother has had the central heating on (Radiators) as shes always cold lol.

But my cpu temp reached 59-60c in a matter of 2 minuites of it been switched on...ive opened all my windows in my room and set all fans to 100% and the temps have gone down a bit but its still quite hot at 51c:cool:

Is it ok to keep on using it right now as its performing realy slowly and crashed a few times?
It doesnt seem to be going any lower than 51c:mad:

and i cant even monitor my gpu temps because it has no damn sensor so i dont know how hot that is:mad:

EDIT:Guys..ive just run everest home and its not the cpu temp thats high...my hard drive is only 35c and my mobo is 35c too.

so what the hell is the 51c showing?

Most likely just an error in the program, never trust those programs.

And as for your gpu, i wasnt aware the 9600 had sensors? I thought temp sensors in GPUs were fairly new, i remember when nVidia just started putting them in on the mid FX series (5500 and up i believe).
 
Those temps are high, I think it would the problem causing your crashes and such. Try giving the CPU heatsink a clean, it may be covered in dust and the like...

SpeedFan often reads temps wrong... it's probably just a miss-reading.
 
what has happened to me with a desktop running high and im talking 6 hours of intensive VJ-ing is that it crashed but your computer isnt in a nightclub and the temps arent madly high anyway! im no expert but you'll be fine i reckon! my laptop has run close to 70 and its all good!

so in fact answering you question. i dont think that it does slow down performance! should be all good really!

alright guys thanks for your replies.

the bottom red temp is still at 51c on speedfan but i think that like you guys said its just wrong.

everest says my temps are fine

CPU:32C
HDD:34C
MOBO:34C

But i do think my cpu heatsink is dusty so il have to pick up a can of compressed air tommorow.

Dual_Corex2....nah i dont think my 9600 has sensors because even in the ATI tool the temps section are just greyed out and nothing shows up in speedfan or everest about the gpu temps:mad:

most of the X1000 series will have sensors. However an AGP 9600 pro will not i also have one of those cards in the closet collecting dust and it had no sensor. I was actually shocked it had a fan on it
 
yes i agree with the rest... speed fan is not reliable, check your BIOS temps, and clean the HSF and and reapply TP or get a better HSF

haha there gonna be about 2xx soon. and yeah its a nice rig but im still working on new parts. tomorrow the 10000 rpm 150 gb sata drive and a 5000 rpm zalman cpu cooler. :)

the x800 series has them as well.
 
go on eithe rthe NVIDIA control panel or go control panel display settings advanced - then click 7900gs xt then click on monitor temps or change to classic control panel user interface first if you have to - or you can check it in everest
 
alright guys i think im gonna replace my 120mm back exhaust fan and replace my cpu heatsink fan as it just screws on to the heatsink and give the heatsink a good blast with compressed air. :)

i dunno how long it would last...suppose it depends on how much of it you need to use.

i dont think i would need even half a can to do mine because its not realy that bad,Its just inbetween the heatsink i cant get the dust out.
