I got a question

How much faster is a 3GHz CPU than a 7200RPM Hard Drive?

I need this question answered ASAP if u guys could. Thanks

Besides these being two devices you can't really compare, hard drives are very inconsitant in their transfer rates. Plus, is it SATA or IDE? What's it's logical size? What's it physical size? Does it have 2, 8, or 16MB cache? And for the CPU, what kind of CPU? Pentium 4? Pentium D? C2D? The list goes on and on...

This is just someone signing up and posting threads that are completely idiotic, hence this is his only post.

Either that or he is the dumbest person I have ever seen in my life :P

Hmm. Sounds like a school question of some sort. Maybe working on a project or something :P

Try Googling it. I'm sure you'll find some sort of comparison chart. Though, maybe not... So many things to compare and contrast.

Thats off the wall, never thought about it:rolleyes: You would think a processor even a small one, then ram. Even simms ram I would think could read and write quicker than any mecanical harddrive

thats a pretty good question in my mind.

ram and hard drives deal with large files and actual data transfer and movement.
a cpu on the otherhand doesen't have programs loaded directly into it like ram and hard drives, it basicly does calculations, which could be VERY tiny pieces of data. even if you have a modern cpu that can do 10 million calculations a min, if the data of those calculations aren't even measurable by bits or bytes then overall that 10mil a sec could be less data per min then a hard drive can read/write.

Also, if you were to drop a hard drive and a processor off a skyscraper, the hard drive would be faster due to being denser, so there!

Depending on the CPU, the HDD would win by a large amount. Some of the newer ones would just fly around in the wind and land miles away.

Well, sorry not everybody is a computer geek like u are...... At least I have a life......It was just a simple question, so if u ain't got nothing smart to say why the hell do u post then? Anyways, thanks for nothing ****ers

Thank u. This question was asked like this to me by my boss (he has a Master Degree in Computers)......At least somebody posted something productive in this thread

Chill out...........Take a joke, this is a forum. You can get an answer but, seriously, who asks about that? They don't work separate they work together, as someone said before there are a lot of variables. So what if we are computer geeks, THIS IS A COMPUTER FORUM. At least we are computer literate, that will one day serve a purpose. And, do not say that we don't have a life, trust me, plenty of the people on this forum have jobs, school, and a social life. Don't come in here rubbing off on us because you are in the wrong friggin' place.

Yes, I would say the CPU is faster, think about all the times that some computers slow down during hard drive access.

Go tell your boss that you have no forum communication skills

04Roush2, I hope that your questions were answered; also I hope that you can understand where most of us are coming from with the initial question. Furthermore, please feel welcome in the future here, and if you feel like the question/issue may be rather "noobish", then please remind us of that. (We do get people that will post random stuff like this just to see what happens...)
