Cpu temperatures high need help

The processors in my sig I just built the computer today how come in the bios the temperature says its in the high 60s C but in speedfan Temp 1 is 51C Temp 2 is 36C Core 0 50C Core 1 48C. Which one can I trust the bios or speedfan which one is more accurate?

And these temperatures are not on load they are idle temps.

Any help is appreciated?

The bios is usually always correct and most accurate.

Alot of temp/fan programs there temps are off by alot most of the time.

Also is that a prescott? Those are known to get hot.

Look at my signature it is a CORE 2 DUO E6420.

hmm make sure there is no dust in your heatsink, and makesure you got good thermal paste cause that s way to high for a e6420 at stock tems

did you over clock?

I just built the computer today so there should be no dust at all. I am using Arctic Silver Ceramique and I have not overclocked.

Its possible that you could have applied too much paste or not enough, but im not there to judge that...just a suggestion

I reapplied the thermal paste and I dont think I put to little or too much on it at all.

I have a house fan blowing into the case and the BIOS says 58C but that is not under load. In windows it says right now

temp 1 36c
temp 2 31c
core 0 42c
core 1 42c

Which ones do I look at? And those temperatures are idle just with the internet and speedfan up. it gets much higher underload. I dont have the case panel on and I have no case fans. Would case fans help or not?

after you reapplied the new paste, have you seen what the temp is in your bios to see if its any better?
Its always possible for applications in windows to give false readings

Another thing in the bios the system temperature is 35C and the cpu temperature is 58C how can the system temp be cooler than the cpu temperature. And these temps are not load they are idle and that is what is worrying me the most.

reapplied TP, House fan, and still overheating? You either have a busted chip or your BIOS readings are screwed. The latter is my guess, faulty sensors are actually common.

Yeah I think the sensors are faulty cause when I touch the cpu heatsink it is cool to the touch.

Well that's the icing.. unless the HSF isn't managing to transfer any heat then you should be alright, at least till you want to OC or something. Faulty sensors suck. :D

Yeah, try Intel Thermal Analysis Tool or PC Wizard. I found that PC Wizard and TAT gave the same temp readings on the CPU, and since Wizard does so much more, I just use that. See what kind of readings you get from there.

Try updating the BIOS as well, being a new chipset the P35 is bound to have some quirks. Even 965 chipsets can have some changes when a new BIOS update is applied.

Maybe you could buy a cheap aftermarket temp monitor, the ones that come with the thermal sensors...

I might end of doing that if I cant fix this
try INTEL THERMAL ANALYSIS.

Ill try that.

Do you need a floppy drive to update the bios or can you use a CD.
When you put new paste on you removed the stuff that comes on the heatsink already right?

Yes I did.
