Cpu upgrade...your choice

I think something like a Q6600 is a great deal at the moment... Especially if you get the G0 stepping, it'll run cool and OC to around 3.2Ghz, if not more!

I don't think I'd see myself getting a new Dual Core... I do a fair bit of 3D Work and Photoshop stuff so a Quad Core would benefit me more.

yes good plan. im about to get a q6600 very soon haha. maybe next month. earlier if i can find some money :)

Quad would be my preference.

You know photoshop is soon to be getting GPGPU support, which is to say your GPU will be able to accelerate any graphical task in that app. Even moreso than extra cores based on what people have said of the beta video!

Oh, Cool. Will that be a patch or in a new release? CS3 just came out, didn't it?

That'd be so cool if it did!

New release I believe, and around October.

Ok wait, you can read about it yourself here. It's gonna be in the next gen photoshop, released the first of October. Looks like it also is able to use a physics card in the same way! Seriously cool stuff, agreed.

its £164 so not much over my budget,

As for the e8400,yeah its a great cpu but its only Dual core, the future is Quad.

jsut out of interest, how do you pronounce cache? can someone spell it out with words? haha

guys how far do you think i could OC a Core 2 Quad Q6700 2.66GHz?

if you compare my overclock now i have my e6300 from 1.86Ghz to 2.7Ghz

im thinking this Q6700 2.66GHz,maybe overclocked to 3.1Ghz will be like twice as fast as my e6300? :D

personally i would love the rig you allready had, it would do everything id ever want to do, to answer your question, go quad core, i know there not fully taken advantage of yet but it will future proof your system
