Newegg ships stuff in multiple boxes, ex- the case they ship in its own box, my cpu came in its own box, some stuff is combined into the same box though.

OK, now that I am ACTUALLY buying this stuff, some prices have changed so I have a few more questions about alternative parts (listed in order of importance):

PSU:

Is this PSU any good? http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341012

This one went up in price: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817703017

RAM:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231122 or with slightly worse timings, more advertising crap:

Mobo: Some other possible options (GB P-31 is $63)

-yes, that OCZ power supply is good and in fact if you use coupon code EMCLSLS2 it is $10 less;)
-Go with the g.skill ram, great ram.
-Go with the asus mobo, more pci/expansion slots as it is atx over microatx and P43 is better chipset than G31
-That rosewill wind ryder is also a pretty nice case, i recommend it for now on budget builds as it has free shipping which saves ~$20

StealthXStream is fine, but is the "budget" line. GameXStream is more toward the quality line, but the Stealth should suffice fine.

For the price a hec power supply would probably be the better bang for buck.

Was that serious? hec power supplies are kinda crappy imo... the ocz power supplies are fine as far as the price goes, of course they arent a seasonic or a pcpower&cooling but they are still one of the best budget power supplies. FSP makes the ocz SxS series, not sure who makes the hec power supplies... (Btw, FSP make some really good power supplies, as i know they make the zalman power supplies, which have a super stable voltage, on the reviews for them there was a super small ripple, smaller than corsair (which is seasonic) if i remember right.) Also, the GameXStream series are also manufactured by FSP.

Thanks a lot for the quick replies! I think I am pretty much settled thanks to all the help!

bomberboysk - thanks again, and also for the promo

oscaryu1 - Any particular suggestions for a Hec PSU? Keep in mind that OCZ is $50, but drops to $30 w/ MIR...

However, this looks tempting: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817339025

Personally i find the ocz power supplies to be of better quality, but that hec power supply is alright. For your rig, the ocz is more than enough though;)

Yeah, dont go open box mobo as it doesnt include anything except the mobo, no i/o panel, cables, connectors etc. What did your budget end up being and your entire list? Maybe we could rework a few things for ya;) Just post your current list of parts your thinkin of and budget, and we can slim it down from there;)

OK, well I didn't read the whole thread (just the beginning and the end), so here's my take on it... forgive me if I missed something.

First, why not save money and get a case with free shipping? Here's three to pick from:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147114

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119193

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811156223

Also, have you considered AMD? I've found that it seems to always be the best for budget system... you just get so much more for your money. Either of these, for example:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103678

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103300

I'm personally very pleased with AMD... and (really minor thing, but whatever) their stock coolers seem to be nicer quality than Intel's.

You could also save money with onboard video... ATI Radeon 3100 and HD3200 seem to be very nice for what they are.

EDIT: OK, I see you've made some changes, and you've already bought the case and GPU, so you can ignore those two recommendations. :p I'd still highly recommend AMD though. :)

This seems to be a nice mobo for the price:

If you dont mind rebates, this is another good one(but more $):

Well,The OP ordered case already, the Rosewill Wind Ryder in Yellow, that had free shipping:p(also one of the best budget cases imo). Next up, as far as amd goes for this... the e5200 runs cooler and faster than the 7750, 45nm based cpu vs 65nm, and the more effecient core 2 vs phenom architecture;)

Great! Thanks again guys!

Irishwhistle - I am biased because I have always run Intel, but I really appreciate the suggestions. The main reasons why I am tempted to stick with intel are 1) 45nm, and specifically the E5200 can OC like crazy (4+ghz for a $70 CPU!!) and 2) I am pretty familiar with intel components and architecture compared to AMD.

bomb - funny you mention the p31. If you look at my original build, I had that same board, so maybe I will end up with it after all. The p5q is a bit out of my price range, and possibly a bit overkill (if such a thing exists) considering the purpose of this machine (internet browsing, etc.), but thanks!

Lol, yeah the P31 mobo is great. Also, one thing to mention, if you dont mind a microatx(4 expansion slots vs 7) then this mobo would prolly oc a bit better due to a slightly better chipset;)

OK, I understand... you should still give AMD a chance though sometime. :D

Yeah, in the $100-$200 range i would say amd is on top right now, as 775 wont be seeing many new processors released, and the phenom II's are almost as good clock for clock as the core 2's while providing future upgradability via AM3. But for the $50-100 i think intel still holds the edge due to 45nm.

I'm sure will try AMD some day, I've just heard that currently Intel has AMD beat, but apparently if my bigger was a little bigger, AMD would be the way to go...

I'm still holding off on a mobo because not onlydid those deals disappear but so did the free shipping!! :(

Hi guys,

I order everything, so it's in the mail finally.

My case got here today, the Rosewill Wind Rider.

It seems quite nice for $40, but there seems to be one idiotic flaw: the front mesh cover, which is magnet latched, has to be opened in order to access the front USB and audio ports. Also, I've only looked at it briefly, but it seems the pannel must also be opened to open the DVD drive.

Can anyone explain why they might do this or correct me if I'm wrong?

Its just a front cover over the cd drives to keep the clean look of the case, alot of cases have covers over the front bays like that. And it doesnt really affect it that much as most people just leave them open anyhow.
