I was wondering if its possible to d/l an update for CS:S without steam since i only have dial-up and would rather get a patch from a comp at school than wait forever for it to d/l on my PC. Possible?

i dont think so. b/c steam only releases thier patches through them and installs it automatcally. but i may be wrong as ive never seen or heard of a place that you could download the patches.

I will be getting cable internet eventually but would like to sharpen my skills against bots in the mean-time

i cant even get on CS:S without updating so I've never even played CS. I got CS:S with HL2 and the update for HL2 was much smaller than the CS:S one so I could wait for it to update but not for CS:S.

I tried but it is really big and an overnight update just updated about 5%...I have 26.4k dial-up speed. CURSE LIVING IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE!!!

my god, i feel for you i really do, but sorry, there is NO way that you can download updates for a steam product without the use of steam itself, just the way it was made....... 26k, lol,

It devastated me when I moved from North Carolina (had digital cable) to Arkansas (f**king 26k)...oh well, I am moving this summer, hopefully.

Well this is very easy to do... come on guys... Use your brains...

Just install it on a pc with a fast connection, download the entire thing so it is playable.. Then make the backup copy to hardrive feature (it is called seomthing like that) It make a zip file, which you the burn to a dvd or cd. Walla moveable update.

I already thought of that but...I seriously doubt my facilitator would let me install half life 2 on the computer.... even if i snuck it in, its kinda hard to not notice someone with 5 CDs installing something on a pc. Also, the school server most likely blocks the steam server. If it was that easy, I would have tried it months ago.

Dont assume because YOU think it should be blocked, it is. Also, just because YOU did not try it does not make it a bad idea.

You don't need to play it at school, just install it.
He asked how he can do it, this is his answer.
Or take a copy from a friend who has DSL/Cable? ;)

well...ALL half life (and any game-related) sites are blocked so im sure the steam server is blocked especially when the Steam homepage is blocked.
