dads pc

hello guys,
my dad really needs a new pc, so I build one for him.
my question to you is about the psu, is this psu enough? Because he don't want to spend more then 800 euro (now it's 799 :P)

for a weird reason is the i7 3770 cheaper then the i7 2600 (he is not planning to overclock, so I use stock cooler for him)
It's meant for his work, so he only wants a fast computer...

any suggestions?

the psu is good enough i think but you can really drop costs on the processor..
a I53570k is fast enough and then you can buy a little better psu;)

I think an i7 is more future proof... it has hyperthreading and that's a big advantage in applications he uses (programming)... (in games, it has no advantage.)

As maxx said, I think you should drop down to the i5 3570K and then buy a better PSU, 600W+. If you want you could also overclock the CPU to improve performance even further :).

man, plz read the previous posts...
I said i7 is more future proof. And it's not meant to overclock!

I'm not saying he has to overclock it. I know it's more future proof but if he wants to save some money then I think he should just buy the i5 for the time being, then if he decides it's not good enough (which I doubt he will) he still has the freedom to overclock it :). That's just my opinion anyway.

he will use the stock cooler, so he will have to buy a new cooler.

Nah Hyper-Threading does not make much of a difference at all for programming. It's when you start running multi-threaded stuff like video editing and CAD design where you start to see a difference. I program on my i5 2500K just fine, heck I program on a Raspberry-Pi computer and that's got a tiny little processor. An i7 isn't worth it for your Dad and pairing it with that graphics card is just unbalanced. Get the 3570K and use the onboard HD 4000 graphics, those will work fine. What software does he use to program and how are the programs he is building?

and what about an fx8150? it's much cheaper...
And maybe a bit more future proof then the i5
The FX-8150 is a poor CPU, it's usually beaten by the 2500K which is cheaper still, see here http://www.anandtech.com/bench/Product/288?vs=434

It's not only programming, he just wants a fast pc :P
the amd is cheaper then the 2500k :)

The 3570K and the 2500K are fast. If he's not going to use the potential of the i7, why buy it?

Yeah but the AMD is a weak CPU. Go for the 2500K or 3570K, don't get the FX-8150.

found this psu:
https://www.alternate.be/html/pcbuilder/productDetail.html?searchClass=powerSupply&artno=TN6RX1&cn=1&tn=BUILDERS

4 x 5,25 inch
1 x 3,5 inch
4 x Serial-ATA

are that enough power connectors? I think yes (just to be sure :p)
Don't get that, it looks dodgy to me. I'd only buy from well known brands - Corsair, XFX, Seasonic, Antec, PC P&C, OCZ, NZXT.

I made a new (cheaper) build:

Is this ok then?
All looks fine but I'd get rid of the graphics card and get a better PSU (Corsair CX 500 would be fine) and possibly a better case.

Is the cpu gonna be hotter when using the hd4000 graphics?
No.

That aerocool PSU is AWFUL! Very likley to blow up, and take parts with it. That case would be a nightmare to build in, and drop the 5450 and use intels onboard grapics. Unless, your dad is using more than 1 monitor. Get a case from: Corsair, antec, nzxt, and cooler master.

LOL can't help but laugh at "Very likely to blow up, and take parts with it." I just find it funny; it's true though. :D

I agree with everything said here. Definitely drop the graphics card and put more money into the case and PSU. Corsair CX 500 and a Corsair 300R would be good, or if you can't afford the 300R one of the cheap Cooler Master Elite cases would be fine.

The FX is 20 bucks cheaper then the 2500K. But you should go for a FX 8120. Its 30 bucks cheaper then the 8150 and will clock to the 8150 speed with nothing but a X change only even with the stock cooler. Even to 4ghz with the stock cooler.

I dont get why you keep saying the FX is a Poor CPU. Its like people take out the equation that all the FX are unlocked and really clock well. In my opinion I would take a FX over any Intel other then the K models. All of them will clock easy to 4ghz. with the stock cooler. Get a decent cooler and they from the 4100 to the 8120 will do 4.5/4.8ghz easy. Show me a intel that will beat it under 200 bucks.

Wow, Just wow. I have nothing agianst FX CPUs, in fact, I was gonna get one. But, a 8100 is a lot worse than a 2500k or 3570. Just look at passmark. If that $20 really matters, and your dad is only programming, than go for a 8100. But, really, a 3570k is a LOT better than a FX 8100.

I guess if your building a computer to run passmark your good to go. Plus right now the 2500K is 70 bucks more then the FX 8120. Plus I said any Intel CPU under 200 bucks which the 2500K and 3570K is not. As I have said many times I would take a FX over any (non K model) Intel. It really depends on the benchmark if they are really better or not. For under 200 bucks the FX is a better processor.
