Deciding on what computer to get for my birthday :)

^ That RAM is good, but Bomber's mobo is better. Possibly the RAM too. It has SATA 6GB/s and USB 3.0, among other things, which will help it last a bit longer in terms of usefulness.

I found this mobo-

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813131603

And this ram-

Which ends up being cheaper. So if someone could make sure this mobo and ram would work with all the other things that bomberboysk has in the above post that would be awesome.

And also this monitor-

Since the one bomberboysk gave ends today lol.

Just a note on that motherboard/memory...that is a quality board, and that is quality memory, but at this point in time i would not go with a 770 based chipset. The 800 series chipset integrates features such as sata 6.0 Gb/s and USB 3.0 directly on the southbridge chipset.

If you do go with that board, same price for this memory but it has lower timings, as well as $10 off with a promo code:

That display is great as well, just remember to bear in mind that the resolution on that display is 1680x1050 vs 1920x1080 on the other display. Whenever it comes time to order, you will probably be able to find a good deal on a 1920x1080 display, as newegg has one display or another for a good price pretty much all the time.

I'd have to disagree on a few fronts.

First, there have not been any major issues with Ballistix in quite awhile, last time i heard of any issues was when they were selling the single sided ddr2.

The Antec two hundred case has decent enough cooling to deal with the heatsink on that video card...the 5xxx series run relatively cool anyhow.

The CPU is fine for gaming, many games really shine with a quad over a tri core. As far as unlocked multiplier...when overclocking on air with a decent motherboard such as that MSI board, you're not gonna get any different clocks with an unlocked multi over a locked multi i wouldn't think.

For the price...that combo is not a bad deal, there is one thing i don't like, and that is the power supply since it is one of the cheaper antec Basiq units...but even then its still a decent power supply.

Personally, i would go with the following over that combo though, as it nets you a 5830 and a Phenom II X4:

ODD+PSU:

It comes out under a grand including shipping.

Okay so does the mobo and ram you have here work together or not? I looked that motherboard up on crucial.com and it says it doesn't work with PC3 12800.

Yes, that memory will work in that board. No 1600mhz memory is "officially" supported by the integrated memory controller on AMD cpu's, however "overclocking"(via the bios, in fact you are just setting the memory to its default speeds) the memory to 1600mhz is required, otherwise it will default to 1333mhz.

Okay thanks. So I'll stick with the motherboard and ram you gave me if you think I should. And then does that mean I will have to change the ram settings in the bios to get it to work?

It will work out of the box(per se), but to run at its rated speed that memory will need to be set to 800mhz(which is 1600mhz DDR);)
