Dell vs Alienware

Hi There!

I'm looking to buy my first desktop (I've always been a laptop guy) and I'm not sure whether I should get a Dell or an Alienware. I'll be using the computer for heavy video editing as well as the regular stuff (Word, Excel, etc.) but I'm also a gamer. The price isn't an issue but I get the feeling I'll be paying a big premium for the Alienware name. Is the Alienware Area 51 - ALX really any better than a fully-loaded Dell Studio XPS 9000 in terms of gaming?
 
I've only started thinking about it when I registered for this forum (because of all the threads I saw related to building your own computer) but, call me a sucker, I really like the Dell and Alienware brands. And besides, can a single-person operation really give the same warrantees, level of customer service and upgrade notices as a larger company?
 
Dell owns alienware so yeah just going to put that out there ;) i'd go with a custom computer as you save money and can upgrade much easier.
 
Yeah, I know Dell owns Alienware. I just want to know if there's really a difference in performance between the Alienware Area 51 - ALX and a fully-loaded Dell Studio XPS 9000 when it comes to gaming or am I just paying extra for the looks and name?
 
i say find a local comp shop in your town that builds computers and costum order one from then then u have your costum just for u comp and the warenty u want
