Where did you hear core duo? Link please? and If Core duo is core 2 duo then no they are not on any other socket than LGA 775
I also believe that the core duo's are only 32 bit processors where as the core 2 duo's are 64 bit processors.

And I heard that there are socket 478 version of Core Duo, is that true?

The only major differences between the Core Duo and Core 2 Duo, is that the Core Duo is only 32-Bit, has a lower FSB, and has less cache then some models.
I realized that after looking at CPU-z on my laptop. I was thinking that the Core Duo's had 533 on most of their models.Core Duo doesn't have slower FSB. Both Core duo and Core 2 duo have 667MHz FSB or 533MHz (depending on the model)
