Why does antivirus slows down pc performance? It faster when it not installed!
People say antivirus corrupts the systems and registry. Like system mechanic. why?

2. It slows down performance especially on older PCs due to the fact that every accessed file is immediately scanned as well.
3. It would basically not corrupt, but rather install many registry keys. However, upon reinstallation, that should be fixed.

When you reformated you rpaabally got rid of other things on your computer like spyware which was the real reason why it was slowing down. Your antivirus praballyw asn;t slowing it down very much.Pr0 said:I dont know my old pc was not that old it was
amd 3000+ 1.8 ghz
asus av8 deluxe
1 gig dual channel
120 gb ide
350 powersupply
9800pro videocard
Not only it slowed down the performance but it slowed down the connection. And I have cable. And I try reformating my pc and did not install antivirus then it ran fine including the connection speed.

dciscouts said:Most virus scanners are not designed to catch spyware/adware and other things of that branch of malware. I personally use Anti-Vir for anti-virus, highly recommend it compared to any other, and I've tried quite a few. Sorry to hurt some people's feelings, but McAfee is absolutely horrible, Norton is passable, and others are good, but the real-time protection on Anti-Vir is what sets it apart for me. It actually is a corporate-level anti-virus, but if you just use it for home, it's free. As for the spyware/ad-ware issue, a combo of Spybot and Ad-Aware does the trick; what one doesn't pick up, the other invariably does!
