Doom 3 runs very poorly. Video Card upgrade help needed!!!

I knew nothing about computers when i bought mine. But when i excitedly went and purchased doom 3 my pc could barely run the game.

Please help me choose a high end graphics card for my system so i can also run unreal tournament 3 in its release next month.
 
Well your single-core proc, and 1Gb or RAM will certainly bottleneck any card capable of maxing UT3, which BTW will not need a monster of a system Ala Crysis, Recommended specs are a 7800gtx/dual-core/2Gb of RAM. If you are simply looking for the video card, I get a 8600gts. Not because it's DX10 but because it has the power consumption of a 7600gt, which is important because I suspect your PSU is alittle weak, post wattage and +12v amperage please.


If you have a S939 motherboard you have the option of a cheap dual-core. Upgrading to an extra gig of RAM will help as well. These suggestions are optional. They will certainly help, but are not absolutely needed, merely strongly recommended.
 
A video card and a ram upgrade.... i had my X800XL on a S939 3700+ and could max doom3 (MAX) not ultra :P

First of all what can you spend?
 
A 7600gt, 7900GS or 7950gt should work (your motherboard does have a PCI-Express slot right? If you want DX10, an 8600GTS would fit in your budget.
 
Yes my comp does have pci-express.

My spec mmmm.... give me some time to get that cause i'm here at work.

My Graphics card is integrated with my motherboard, would my igp card have interference with my new card? or would the mb memory merge 2gether?
 
The new card will not be able to work together with the integrated one, no. The integrated graphics will simply be disregarded.
 
Lets say i wanted to upgrade my processor too to a:
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual-Core 6000+ 3.0GHz Processor

Would i need a new motherboard or can i use my same rig?

Hmm probably the highest you could upgrade your processor would be an 5200/5600 using the mother that came with your computer, but i can't be sure until i have the model
 
It's a S939. I think a X2 5600+ would be the fastest chip it could take, I don't think there ever was anything higher for the socket 939 platform...

EDIT: why only a 3800, chupacabra?

I was thinking on upgrading to this video card is it good? and will i need a new power supply aswell?

The cheapest thing you can do is buy a good video card, 8500GT 8600GTS, 7900GS,. Or possible put another 1gb of ram in their. Im playing CS:S wiht Intergrated Graphics and it's crappy but not for long, I have a Geforce 8600GT OC on the way in 2 days....
 
Without even looking at the PSU specification we can tell you that you'd need a PSU replacement for the power/current hungry 1950. A 8600gts is less power hungry, and comparable to the 1950pro. A PSU upgrade will still be needed however..

because the 5600+x2 is a socket AM2 which is totally incompatible with Socket 939
