Driver issue

I just installed a Radeon HD 2600 Pro 512meg card on my Gigabyte GA-K8U-939 motherboard running XP. I just cant get the driver to install. when i go to device manager it calls it a generic vga card. Performance is not there at all. It seems it is barley running.

I try to download from the ATI site. The entire suite. It downloads Catalyst. Then when I try to open any of the four programs that came with Catalyst it does nothing. And my device manager still says generic VGA and has the exclamation point after it.

Ok, do this. Right click on where it says generic vga and click on properties. then click on the details tab and give me the 4 digit vendor and device id numbers... they look like this.

No luck. I just installed CPU Z. A video card didn't even show up. If the card is bad why do I still get video? Sorry this is the first time I build a computer from scratch.

Video cards can come defective. It happens. You might want to have someone confirm it though.

How would I be able to confirm if it is bad? I guess I can ask my buddy to install it on his computer. Would this work?

If it can be installed on another computer and it works then most likely its a motherboard or software issue in your system.
