I am having a problem getting some of my programs to run on windows 7 such as dx9 games, reliable utilites i have used in the past and some operations in XP not being available in 7. The situation i find myself in is a interesting one.

do I.

1. Dual Partition Seagate 1 TB 7200 rpm Hdd (split it with windows xp)

Or........

2. Formatt my old computers drive and install XP on that (exact same drive just half the size 500 gb)

Scenario 1.

If i choose to dual partition the 1 TB drive i may run into issues later down the track with programs/games these days because of how large they are getting. I have the program to dual partition the drive and resize the partition if need be this program being partition magic (provided it works on 7 lol)

Scenario 2.

From reports i have heard and seen more than one Hdd in your machine can slow your whole computer down. For this reason i am weary on putting a new OS on it (although the drive has always been in the machine since i got it almost 3 months ago for transferring old files to the new computer on windows 7)

Any thoughts or suggestions are much appreciated.

Totally up to you. If you have the money, buy a separate drive. More than 1 HDD in your machine is BS. I run three drives in my other rig and it runs perfectly fine.

Ok so i installed windows xp home edition to the 500 gb seperate drive now all my computer will detect and load up is windows xp. I checked the 1tb drive and nothing has been touched but the boot files only have the windows xp information on it. Help please

When you dial-boot, you should install XP first, and then install 7. That way, the newer boot file can take over.

I did not vote because I say run XP in a virtual machine instead of dual booting. Also, what DX 9 games don't run in 7? Utilities? What Utility would you possibly want to run in XP that would even benefit you in 7?

Just buck up and upgrade to Windows 7, and upgrade all your software. It will be better in the long run.

That's what I meant when I said get Windows XP Mode. It's seamless with the Windows 7 desktop. It's similar to Classic on the Mac.

Well i went and backed up all my files and installed xp on the second drive seperately so now all i have to do is go into bios and choose whether i want to boot from the 500 gb drive of windows xp or the 1 tb drive which is windows 7. All my files are setup and working the way i want it now so its a win win really.
