I want for gaming plz state what is better. I dont plan on OC unless it is needed

How long are you planning on keeping the computer? Not many programs as of now will utilize all 4 cores of the Q6600, but in the future they will. If you aren't planning on keeping your computer for long, then I'd suggest the e6850.

For 2yr's get the E6850, I have one and it couldn't be faster... Quad cores are underutilized right now. Hardly nothing uses a quad core.

then that sucks?

does anyone know if like starcaraft 2 or any of those games will use quad core?

Intelcrazy has valid points. but there is no way in hell he knows where we're going to be concerning quads in even a year. (cause I don't XD).

I guess you can look at it this way.. If the "industry" follows the same example they left a couple years ago, when dual-cores were first launched, and they didn't do anything at all for years regarding the proper coding of games and programs then yeah, a high quality single-core would definitely be better.

However the other side of things have a couple indications that make me hopeful for multi-core chips in general. First the "industry" is beginning to change. We are seeing more games with multi-threading support coming out, even if not perfect, they are a step in the right direction. It shows that they are now willing to adapt to the new world of computing. Also on this point i'd like to stress the thought that coding for two cores was hard.. But it's possible that the transition from 2 to 4 will be much less so, Hell, Crysis is doing it. Bringing me to my next point. Crysis is probably the most wanted game on the PC right now. Add to that fact that it will have support for quad-cores and that some of the millions clamoring for it will be willing to pay top dollar for the best experience, leaves me to believe the industries hand was forced with Crysis. Any game using the Crytek engine will most likely support quad cores. And others engines will be forced to adapt because "Crysis did". It's like a game of follow the leader, and most of us know that this industry does this all time.

Or I can be wrong, who knows. :D

i have a quadcore and you wont get lag on ny of those games, so y not get a q6600, it will run that game and bf2 on high settings, and if u like a new game that would be out in a year or so your quad could probably utilize it, id go with the quad but ur opinion with watercooling you can probably get higher then 3.4ghz

Any decent processor will not produce lag, the overall cause of lag in games is people placing graphics settings too high, which normally means a whimpy GPU.

QFT
if your gaming (on a budget) get dual core the reason I got quad core was because gaming was not the main purpose of my quad core rig
