E8400 or not?

Ok, just put the cat amongst the whatever...

Who here would wait until Corei7 and get a new motherboard/ram/cpu, instead of getting a new proc, that is already outdated in some regards? Apparently it will be rediulously faster? Thoughts?

I don't think I would... Apparently they only support DDR3, Which is a massive waste of money, Considering you can OC DDR2 to those speeds.

Plus, is an E8400 / Q6600 not fast enough for you?

Its not the speed so much, i and i did recognise the RAM requirement, but a DD3 board is somewhat future proofing (for the next what 4 years at least lol), and does have a larger bandwidth. I am just wondering, is it worth buying a 2 - 3 hundred dollar proc, or is it worth getting a new mobo, cpu and ram, and selling my other gear? I get your point though, thanks.... but hmmm.....

Oh btw, just as a side point, i just read that the Intel SSD hard drives will mean that the hard drive is no longer the bottle neck. In fact, they are so quick they max out the new 8 core nehalem cpu during a virus check - interesting i think. Anyway, back to the the topic...

There's not really such a thing as future proofing with PC's. You can only really make it stay up to date for so long. Personally, I don't think it'd be worth it... It'd be a huge investment and I don't know how much of a gain you'd actually see.
