e8400 overclock

I just got a new pc. I am running e8400 with an upgraded cpu cooler, and 2 gigs of gaming ram. I saw couple of people running this at 4ghz with ease. Anyone got the bios settings for it. I got enough cooling. I currently have it overclocked at 3.4ghz i get constant 39c and 42 under load. Hope to get some help what would the recommended voltage for it I found a guy running the same cpu at 1.23v.

Thanks.

It's always safer to OC with your own numbers. Someone can give you a estimate at what to set things, but too many variables exist (NB/SB temp, RAM tolerance, gradient CPU design/integrity, blah) to ensure an optimized or even safe configuration. Just slowly bump up the voltages when things get unstable, and you'll find your volt. niche quickly.

That said, there might be someone willing to pop in and OC for you. I'm not familiar with Wolfsdale OCing numbers anyways.

I have a very "low" voltage chip, or "golden" rather. Keep bumping up your FSB and running orthos for about five minutes at a time until you reach 4Ghz, then run orthos for no less than four hours. If unstable, be sure your memory has enough voltage, and the multiplier is correct. Then raise the CPU voltage little at a time. You may need to play with your boards MCH voltages too.

Keep it under 60c using Real Temp, and under 1.35v

I tried do that but my pc keeps restarting here is what I got

CPU Clock ratio - 9x
CPU N/2 Ratio - Disabled
Target CPU Clock - 4005
CPU Clock - 445
DRAM Speed - Auto
Target DRAM Speed - DDR2 1069

In Voltage Settings

CPU VID Special Add - Auto
DRAM Voltage Control - 1.925v
SB 1.05 Voltage - 1.070v
SB Core/CPU PLL Voltage - 1.55v
NB Core Voltage - 1.45v
CPU VTT Voltage - 1.100v
Clockgen Voltage Control - 3.45v
CPU GTL 0/2 REF Voltage - 0.67x
CPU 1/3 REF Voltage - 0.67x
Northbridge GTL REF Voltage - 0.67x]

I dont know what is happening I get 4ghz and it boots up and I run the cpu-z it reads 2600mhz and x6 multiplier and when I run core temp I get 4005mhz 445x9 but my vid is 1.175 is this right or is the voltage to low.

Aight will try can somone explain why in cpu-z It read core 2670.5mhz and multiplier 6x when its 4005mhz and 9x multiplier and why is the voltage not showing it right in bios It shows 1.23v same in coretemp it shows 1.17v. Anyone know why this is.

It's because C1E is enabled, which lowers the multiplier and voltage.

ok boot seems to work everything is working I want to run orthos just to make sure no problems come up how long recommend me running it for.

The cpu voltage is fine and the cpu clock is fine I ran the orthos stress cpu test for 4 hours and not 1 error. But when I ran the cpu and ram test in one I got errors so I think it is the ram causing the error. I currently have the ram voltage set to 2.1v can I go higher then this or no. One more thing with the timing what should I start with.

Then it sounds like a RAM issue, I would raise the voltage a bit more (you should be safe until ~2.3v, if you at least have heatspreaders on your RAM). Or you can loosen your timings.

yeah anything past 2.3 is dangerous, mine runs at 2.4 natively but if you've seen the heatsinks on my ram then you'd know why thats o.k. lol.

anyways, try loosening the timings by 1 notch each, if that doesnt work then raise the voltage by an increment or two.

here are my current settings 450 core clock x9 multiplier. Voltage for cpu is 1.312.v. Ram timing 5-5-5-12, Ram voltage 2.2v. When I run orthos After 5min my cpu temp reaches over 70 close to 80c. Anyone know what the problem can be I have a aftermarket cpu cooler and back case fan blowing on it.
