My wife's computer is now displaying a window that says "End Program - sw" whenever we try to shut the computer down. Anybody know what that is and why its suddenly showing up? She is running Windows 2000.
Something autoloading along with Windows is the problem seen there. This is seen when a program fails to close out when not in use and going to shut down the system. You have to go into the msconfig utility to see what is listed as startup items and try unchecking a few non essentials.
The program may need to be removed and reinstalled if necessary in order to see this corrected. Otherwise disabling it there when known should see an end to the prompts.
See if an online scan (http://housecall.trendmicro.com or http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner or http://www.bitdefender.com/scan8/ie.html there are others as well) can clean it up for you. Or you could go and delete the registry keys and what not your self just be careful of what you delete.sw.exe
