.EXE not showing + other problems

this happens to my friend's laptop. he downloaded a windows live messenger update (i think) and suddenly his laptop encounter all sort of problems. most .exe files and task manager would not show. i went to cmd and typed tasklist and saw that they're running, but just not showing on the screen. at the system tray, i can see that task manager is running but it's not showing. he ran malwarebyte but found only 1 infection, which he cleared. he cannot boot in safe mode, it gets stuck at the screen where it shows u the files being loaded. when he try to turn off his laptop, it get stuck at the logging off screen. He has already uninstalled the update and did a system restore. He is using vista SP1.

nvm, problem solved. i dont know how, though. i was screwing around with the cmd on his laptop this afternoon. by the time i turned it off, the problem was still there but just a while ago, my friend turned his laptop on and everything was back to normal.

Ya I get that, after awhile, I guess it comes from installing an uninstalling progs. an rouge reg entry's n the like like that, really thats the only thing you can do is reinstall

I ment not like that, but sim. stuff
