Hmmm, I'm going to have to give this some thought... :(

It may still be, I'm not sure.

The monitors been fine, it's only now and the other time I posted in this thread. I can test another monitor, but I don't know when or if it'll do it again.

yeah i know it would be annoying to return it and all but as i said it could be a sighn of it giving out.

but like you i just dont know what it could be:cool:

just have a think about it mate and see what the other guys here say;)

Wouldn't expect it do be on it's way out already though...

Yeah, I'll see what other people have to say... :)

I have some diagnostic tips for ya, Kornowski

Plug the monitor up to another computer with the same cable and shake the cable. If something happens, of course, it is the monitor or cable, if not the vid card must be at fault. Try substituting a different cable.

Right, so I'll try another cable, also, I'll try another VGA to DVI connector too.
I really hope it isn't the video card or the monitor, I haven't done anything to them to make them break.

It did it for a split second on the post screen just then, but it dissapeared.

Do they look like 'artifacts'?

I will also, remove the card and try the other DVI port.

Just found that my GPU runs at 47c, is that Ok?

I don't have another cable, but I will try anothe DVI port, DVI to VGA adapter and take the card out for a bit, then put it back in... Give it a clean too. I don't see why it would suddenly start and then dissapear...

I took the card out and put a new DVI to VGA connector on, in the different port on the GPU... Worked fine for like a day...

Then just then the monitor started to blink on and off, but it was on if you get me... I could move the mouse but I could only see it when it blinked on and it had a red line down the centre of it...

Monitor or GPU? Any ideas?

I'm going to send the GPU back, but there's a week turn over which annoying...

:(:(

Got a video

I've managed to get a video, everytime something happens it new...

First off, funny little squares

Next, Bigger squares and lots more of them.

Then, screen flickers on and off with a red line on it.

Now, icons in system tray dissapear and then the screen turns off.

Here's the video, I've just uploaded it so give it a little bit to go on:

http://youtube.com/watch?v=NcSRVnTt7-k

What do you think, it's definately the GPU isn't it, to cause the icons to do that?

Is there anything else that it could be?

I'd really appriciate some help.

Dude... I really dont know what the problem is i am sorry

Thanks for at least responding though.
I don't have Vista either, I've made XP look like it :P :)

It's the lower right of the screen, the icons in the system tray aren't there and then when I click the arrow to expand the system try, they come back, then when it closes they go again, then the monitor just turned it's self off.

It makes me think it's the GPU because the icons go and come and it's not a definate place on the screen, but it could be the monitor, why would it turn itself off?

I don't allways have problems with it, only recently and they're getting more and more frequent.

Is there anything else other than the GPU that could cause something like this?

Another reason I think it's the GPU and not the screen is that it's allways been a different problem, like different squares and lines and then icons and he such...

ANY help at all...

stuck pixels can appear and gone randomly. i had an acer that has a one there and was gonna rma it until it just went away and never came back.

Thanks for the reply, but it isn't dead pixels, have you seen the picture and the video, that'll help explain it more.

To be honest mate that definitely looks like a graphics card issue. A friend of mine purchased a card from Ebuyer and it worked fine for a few weeks until it started doing the EXACT same thing as what yours is. If you can, put your card in another machine and see if that machine starts acting up. Or, if you have onboard graphics, run off that for an hour or two and see if you run into any issues.

I have that exact monitor and I've never seen any of our monitors (or other monitors for that fact) do that when dying. Normally they just pack up on the spot if it is in fact the monitor. I wouldn't put it down to the monitor.

How much slack do you have behind your PC where the monitor connector goes in the graphics card? If you push it against the wall too much and the cable bends it can normally make your socket faulty on your card as it's putting pressure on the soldered pins for that socket (I've had this problem on a previous machine). Only bugger if it's that is that it's your fault, so where ever you bought it from might not refund / repair it (if it is that).

Definitely sounds like the cards on the go to me though. Especially considering I've seen the exact same thing occur with a faulty card my friend had. As by the looks of it the monitors kicking into standby mode because it isn't receiving a signal from the card (this could be an issue with the monitor but I highly doubt it).

Run an application that monitors your card temp and keep your eye on it right up until the point of it blackening out. If you can get the reading of it right before it does it, we'll see if it's overheating or not. Also, check your card cooler, make sure theres no dust in the vent / fan etc. Also make sure it's constantly spining and not stalling.

Breaks.
