Yeah Firefox is the best dude! It hasn't crashed on me in a long time and it can be customized to fit what YOU like best. As far as my favorite WWII game goes, here's the list:
For Atmosphere, I would either go with Call of Duty or Medal of Honor. IMO Call of Duty has better graphics and some of the battles are intense, but Medal of Honor can still compete in terms of graphics with some of the games currently on the market right now (plus the D-Day mission is just inforgettable....one of the best gaming moments for me). HOWEVER, these two games are somewhat too arcadish for my tastes (Gettin pumped full of lead from an MP40 and then loadin up on health packs is not my kinda game.) If they came out with a WWII game that had the atmospshere of CoD or MOH:AA but had the realisim/tactics of a game like Ghost Recon, Rogue Spear, etc. it would blow these out of the water (Brothers in Arms looks promising btw).
As for realism, technical depth, and for people who are OBSESSED with WWII as I am, there is no other game like Battlefront's Combat Mission: Berlin to Barbarossa. This game has good graphics, a WIDE variety of units (hundreds of different troops to chose from, etc.) and an armour system that geeks like me drool over :-D Plus the game play can become hectic, especially if you are commanding 3 squads of German Infantry dug in at a small German village as 10+ T-34 Russian tanks approach from the east, 10 squads of Russian troops from the West and mortar fire every second.......I fought to the very last man lol Highly recommended!!!!!!!! Since I have gotten it, this game hasn't been collecting dust like some of those other WWII games I have
As for flight Simulation, Nothing beats IL-2 Sturmovik. This game has the most realistic flight physics/dynamics ever made for a game. I can attest to this as I have taken a couple of flight lessons and, even though a cessna is far away from a Mig-3, the 'feel' to the game was almost identical to my lesson! It's that realistic. Plus it has good graphics to boot
Finally, another great game that just drips with WWII atmosphere is Silent Hunter II. For those who have seen U-571, it has the same kind of atmosphere, suspense, excitement, etc. as the movie! I remember many, many late nights were I was lurking deep below the frigid Atlantic waters stalking a British or American merchant ship, destroyer, etc. And then just as I was about to launch a torpedo, my radio operator hears fast screws bearing 036 degrees about 50 yards away.......builds up for an intense, suspenseful, exciting game IMO!
There ya have it, Eif's Top Picks of WWII
There are many other games that I play that deal with WWII and WWI (Day of Defeat, Iron Storm, B-17 II, Combat Flight Sim 2 and 3, BF 1942 (got old after a while....and WAY to unrealistic, but still fun) Deadly Dozen, Deadly Dozen II and MANY MANY more......... Hope that helped ya :-D
I'm looking forward to:
Doom III (not WWII but still looks great!)
